Daniel stared at his daughter.
"Lily..."
"When did you see that?"
The little girl shrugged.
"Yesterday."
"I was looking for my crayons."
"I opened the closet."
"She was putting the flower pillow under her dress."
Every pair of eyes turned toward Victoria.
Her face became noticeably pale.
She laughed nervously.
"She's just imagining things."
Before anyone could respond, Victoria's mother quickly interrupted.
"She's only a child."
Children make up stories all the time."
But Daniel knew something wasn't right.
Only two days earlier, Victoria had tearfully announced she was pregnant.
The news had convinced Daniel to move the wedding date forward.
He had already begun preparing a nursery.
Bought baby clothes.
Even shared the joyful announcement with family and friends.
Now...
Doubt filled his mind.
Victoria crossed her arms.
"This is ridiculous."
"You're actually believing a six-year-old?"
Daniel remained calm.
"If she's mistaken..."
"Then showing us the closet should settle this."
Victoria didn't move.
Her breathing became noticeably faster.
Guests exchanged uncomfortable glances.
No one spoke.
Finally, Daniel quietly walked toward the hallway leading to the guest bedrooms.
Victoria stepped in front of him.
"You don't trust me?"
Daniel looked into her eyes.
"I want to."
"But I need the truth."
