The little girl carefully held out the brown paper bag with both hands.
"This is for you."
Sarah looked down in confusion.
Steam escaped from the top of the bag.
Inside was a warm turkey sandwich, a fresh apple, homemade cookies, and a cup of hot chocolate wrapped carefully in a towel to keep it warm.
Sarah looked back at the little girl.
"I can't take this."
The child smiled innocently.
"Daddy bought them..."
She glanced toward a man standing several feet away, watching quietly with a gentle smile.
"...but you look hungry."
Sarah's eyes instantly filled with tears.
No stranger had shown her such kindness in months.
Her shaking hands accepted the bag.
The warmth from the hot chocolate spread through her frozen fingers almost immediately.
"Thank you," she whispered, struggling to hold back sobs.
The little girl's father slowly walked closer.
"I'm sorry if she's bothering you," he said kindly.
Sarah quickly shook her head.
"No."
"She's the first person who's talked to me all day."
The father smiled warmly.
"My daughter believes everyone deserves dinner."
The little girl nodded proudly.
"My grandma says hungry people shouldn't eat alone."
Sarah laughed softly through her tears.
For the first time in a very long time...
She didn't feel invisible.
But the little girl wasn't finished.
She looked directly into Sarah's eyes.
Then said something that stopped everyone in their tracks.
