The Master of the House

She Thought Her Stepmother Belonged in the Family Empire

Richard closed the large front doors behind him with a heavy wooden click.

He looked at his wife kneeling near the stairs and his daughter holding the paper.

"What is happening here?" Richard repeated, walking slowly into the grand room.

"Richard, darling!" Eleanor cried out, her voice suddenly changing into a soft whimper.

She scrambled up from the floor and rushed toward her husband with fake tears.

"Victoria attacked me and insulted my place in this home!" Eleanor sobbed dramatically.

Victoria stood her ground, holding the little stroller handle securely in her hand.

"I did not touch you, Eleanor," Victoria said with a steady, quiet voice.

"She tried to throw our family papers away, Richard!" Eleanor continued lying quickly.

Richard raised his hand to stop his wife from speaking any further.

He turned his eyes directly toward Victoria and looked at her expression.

"Victoria, hand me whatever paper you are holding right now," Richard commanded softly.

Victoria walked forward across the marble floor and placed the document in his hands.

"Read the signature at the bottom, Dad," Victoria said gently.

Richard adjusted his reading glasses and looked down at the official court paper.

His brow furrowed deeply as he read the title of the trust transfer form.

His eyes lingered on the line bearing his late son Henry's name.

The date written next to the signature was dated just three weeks prior.

Richard's hands began to shake slightly as the painful reality sank into his mind.

His deceased son could not possibly have signed a legal paper last month.

"Eleanor... what is the meaning of this signature?" Richard asked, his voice trembling.

"It... it must be a mistake by the lawyers, Richard!" Eleanor stuttered nervously.

"This is not a mistake, Eleanor," Richard said, his tone growing extremely cold.

"You used my dead son's name to steal my family's legacy!" Richard yelled out.

Eleanor backed away toward the staircase as Richard stepped closer to her.

The powerful businessman was filled with absolute shock and righteous fury.

He tossed the paper onto the side table and glared at his wife with disgust.

"I gave you a comfortable life, a home, and my complete trust!" Richard roared.

"Richard, please listen to me!" Eleanor begged, pressing her back against the railing.

"You lied about my son, and you lied to my daughter!" Richard shouted back.

He pointed a stern finger toward the grand front exit of the mansion.

"Get out of my house before I call the police myself!" Richard declared loudly.
