The heavy air of the hot Dallas night hung thick over the wide backyard deck of the luxury estate. Bright pool lights cut through the dark water, illuminating the hardwood oak patio that stretched toward the grand glass patio doors. Through the spotless glass, a framed piece of American flag art glowed softly against the crown molding trim inside the grand house. Scattered across the dark wood deck were hundreds of fresh red rose petals, trailing all the way to the water's edge like a pathway of dark red blood. Standing right at the edge, dressed in a sweeping red gown, Clara held her seven-year-old daughter, Lily. Her freckled face was completely expressionless, her cold eyes staring straight into the dark ripples below. Lily trembled, her tiny bare feet touching the slippery rose petals right at the edge of the deep pool.
Clara: This blood is mine. Disappear into the abyss.
Lily: Mommy, please! It's cold! I don't want to go in!
Clara: Disappear into the abyss.
Before the young girl could pull back, Clara leaned down and gave her a firm, cold push. Lily stepped off the edge, her tiny body falling into the deep end with a heavy splash that echoed across the entire estate. Water erupted high into the humid night air, scattering the rose petals floating on the blue surface. Below the surface, the little girl kicked frantically, her small arms reaching upward as she sank into the illuminated blue water. Suddenly, a fast shadow broke through the bright light from the open patio doors. Mark, his dark shirt unbuttoned and his face wild with pure panic, sprinted across the wet wood deck without stopping. Without pausing for even a second, he dove headfirst into the deep pool, cutting through the clear water straight toward his drowning child. He swam downward rapidly, his powerful strokes tearing through the rising bubbles.
His large hands reached out and grabbed Lily's waist, pulling her securely against his chest before kicking hard toward the surface. They broke through the blue water together with a loud splash, both gasping heavily for air. Mark held his tiny daughter tightly against his neck, swimming her quickly toward the concrete steps.
Lily: Dad! Grandma told Mommy that Grandpa said I shouldn't be here!
Mark: I've got you, Lily! Hold on tight to me baby!
Mark pulled himself and Lily up onto the wet oak deck, heavy water dripping off his dark clothes and pooling over the scattered rose petals. His whole body trembled with pure fury as he set his shivering daughter down on the dry wood floor. Standing just a few feet away, Clara stood completely motionless in her long red dress, looking at them with a cold, unbothered stare. Mark stepped forward immediately, confronting her with eyes full of rage.
Mark: You just crossed the line, Clara!
Clara: Please, I can explain everything!
Mark: You won't survive this night!
Mark reached out quickly, grabbing her face firmly and forcing her to look directly into his angry eyes. Panicked tears finally broke through Clara's cold mask, but Mark's tight grip remained completely frozen. He knew right then that the fight for his family's massive trust fund, the estate, and his daughter's life had just turned into full war. He was never going to let Clara destroy another soft soul in this grand house.
