Evelyn walked past Megan and stood beside Sarah and her son Mark.
She reached out gently and patted little Ella’s soft head with tears in her eyes.
Evelyn: I am so sorry, Sarah, you did the right thing protecting your baby.
Sarah: Thank you, Evelyn, but Megan cannot stay here for dinner tonight.
Evelyn: I agree completely. Megan, give me your house keys right now.
Megan gasped in absolute shock, grabbing her purse tighter against her side.
Megan: You are siding with them against your own daughter, Mom?!
Evelyn: You need help, Megan. You cannot go around hurting this family anymore.
Mark: Take your coat and leave, Megan. Do not come back until you apologize.
Megan opened her mouth to argue, but realized nobody in the room supported her.
She turned around violently, grabbed her thick winter coat, and yanked the front door open.
The cold winter air rushed into the foyer as she slammed the door behind her.
The loud bang echoed through the house, followed by a heavy, quiet silence.
Mark walked over to Sarah and wrapped his arms around both her and baby Ella.
Mark: I am so sorry you had to deal with that, Sarah. You were so brave.
Sarah: Our baby comes first, Mark, no matter who tries to hurt her.
Ella let out a soft sigh and leaned her head against Sarah’s shoulder peacefully.
Evelyn wiped a tear from her cheek and smiled softly at the small, strong family.
Evelyn: Let us finish setting the table. Tonight, we celebrate peace and safety.
Sarah looked down at her healthy, safe daughter and finally felt her heart rest.
Boundaries had been set, the truth was clear, and love had won the fight.
