Mark took a step closer to Sarah with a frown on his face.
Mark: You always turn small family things into major dramatic arguments.
Sarah: Tying our toddler with a metal chain is not a small thing, Mark!
Evelyn: I was only holding the antique necklace up to check its length, Mark.
Evelyn: Sarah came charging in here like a crazy person and accused us.
Clara nodded her head quickly to agree with her mother's statement.
Clara: Yes, Mark, we were just showing him the pretty shiny necklace.
Sarah could not believe the blatant lies coming out of their mouths.
She looked down at her son who was clutching her shirt tightly.
Leo pointed his small finger directly at his father with a sad look.
Leo: Bad daddy did it!
Mark shifted uncomfortably in his leather dress shoes.
He reached into his suit pocket to check his mobile phone.
In his nervous haste the phone slipped out of his trembling fingers.
It fell down onto the hard dark marble floor with a loud click.
The glass screen cracked right down the middle as it slid near Sarah's feet.
Mark leaned down quickly to snatch the phone back up into his hand.
Sarah saw a strange notification light flashing on his screen before he hid it.
It was a notification from an encrypted smart home surveillance app.
Sarah remembered that she had installed a hidden nanny camera inside the smoke detector last week.
She had placed it there after noticing unexplained bruises on Leo's arms.
She pulled her own tablet device out of her large leather tote bag on the counter.
She unlocked the tablet screen with her thumbprint scanner.
A soft chime echoed through the tense kitchen air.
Mark: What are you looking at on that screen, Sarah?
Sarah: Something that is going to reveal everything you have been hiding from me.
Evelyn's face suddenly turned pale white as she watched Sarah tap the screen.
Evelyn: Turn that device off right now, Sarah!
Sarah: Keep your distance from me and my child!
Sarah opened the cloud storage video logs from earlier that morning.
The recorded video footage began to play clearly in high definition audio and picture.
