The Weight of Justice

My Wealthy Husband Hit Me Until My Father Returned Home

Arthur stepped right into Julian's personal space, his eyes burning with an intense heat that made Julian freeze in place. The entire foyer seemed to hold its breath as the grand floor clock ticked loudly in the corner. Julian tried to raise his chin to maintain some shred of dignity, but his hands were shaking at his sides.

Arthur: My daughter! Pack your trash! And you will answer!

Before Julian could react or form a word of defense, Arthur delivered a swift, violent slap across Julian's right cheek. The sound of the sharp impact cracked through the high foyer like a gunshot, echoing off the high ceilings and marble walls. Julian's head snapped back hard, and a bright red mark instantly spread across his cheek as he gasped in shock and pain, stumbling back against the bottom wooden banister.

Julian: You... you slapped me in my own house!

Arthur: That is only a small down payment on what you owe my family.

Evelyn: Call the police! Julian, call the police right now!

Arthur: Go ahead, Evelyn. Call them. My legal team is already waiting at the district station.

Clara: Dad, I want my bags from the bedroom.

Arthur: Leave everything, Clara. We will buy you a thousand new dresses today.

Arthur turned his back on Julian, completely ignoring the man who was clutching his red, burning face in total disbelief. Evelyn scrambled down the stairs, trying to comfort her son, but her hands were trembling so badly she could barely hold his arm. The power dynamic in the house had completely flipped in less than five minutes, leaving the Vances looking small and pathetic in their own oversized home.

Evelyn: You will lose your business contracts for this, Sterling!

Arthur: I cancelled all four of your family's trust fund credit lines twenty minutes ago.

Julian: What are you talking about? You do not have that authority!

Arthur: I bought your bank's holding debt this morning, Julian. You work for me now.

Julian stared at Arthur with wide, terrified eyes, realizing that his entire financial empire, his mansion, and his reputation were completely crumbling under his feet. He opened his mouth to beg, but no sound came out of his throat as he watched Arthur gently wrap a soft grey coat around Clara's shoulders, shielding her from the draft coming through the wide front doors.

Arthur: Let us go home, Clara. Your real family is waiting for you.

Clara: Thank you, Dad. I am ready to leave this place forever.

Julian: Clara, please... we can talk about this! We can fix this!

Clara: You had your chance to fix it every day for two years, Julian.

Clara turned her back on her husband and walked out the front doors between the two security guards, her head held high and her hands resting gently over her belly. The dark sedan was waiting, its doors held open as the rain began to fall softly on the long driveway. She stepped inside, feeling a wave of deep relief wash over her as the car pulled away from the mansion, leaving Julian standing in the doorway, clutching his swollen cheek while his mother wept silently on the cold marble floor.
