David held the thick stack of legal papers firmly in his strong right hand. The room was so quiet that only the faint hum of the air conditioner filled the space. Victoria stood frozen in place, her expensive rings sparkling under the bright room lights.
Victoria: Put those documents back on the table right now, David.
David: You married me for my money, didn't you? You never cared about us.
Victoria: That is ridiculous! I am your wife, and I deserve respect and security!
David looked down at his daughter Lily, who was slowly stopping her heavy tears to watch her father. He felt a sudden burst of complete clarity inside his mind about what he had to do. He knew that money and big houses meant nothing if his child was not safe.
With a fast sharp motion, David ripped the entire stack of prenuptial papers straight down the middle. The loud sound of tearing paper echoed off the white marble walls like a sharp gunshot. Victoria gasped loudly and brought both her hands up to cover her mouth in shock.
Victoria: What are you doing?! That is our future you are destroying!
David did not answer her with soft words; instead, he ripped the paper again into smaller quarters. White paper scraps fell onto the clean floor like cold snow around his shiny leather shoes. He let the final pieces drop from his fingers directly onto the spotless marble ground.
David: I am done with you, Victoria. Our marriage ends right here today.
Victoria's face turned completely red with sudden embarrassment and rising anger. She stepped forward quickly and pointed a long manicured finger directly at David's face. Her quiet calm voice was gone, replaced by a sharp loud shriek that filled the foyer.
Victoria: You cannot throw me out! I have legal rights to this estate and money!
David: You have no rights here after what you did to my innocent child today!
Lily squeezed David's hand tightly, feeling the strong power in her father's firm standing stance. David pointed his long finger toward the large wooden front door at the end of the hall. He stood tall right beneath the framed American flag that hung proudly behind him.
David: Pack your bags and leave my home before I call my own lawyer.
Victoria: You will regret this, David! My family will sue you for everything you own!
David: Go ahead and try. No court in this country will side with a child abuser.
Victoria looked at the paper scraps scattered across the white floor and then back at David's sharp eyes. She realized that she had lost all her power and control over him in a single moment. She turned around fast, her white dress swishing as she marched toward the master bedroom.
