Taking Control of the House

My Mother Slapped My Wife Over Coffee So I Exposed Her Secrets

By four o'clock in the afternoon, the summer sun was still shining brightly through the high kitchen windows, but the dynamic inside the house had completely shifted. The rest of the family had departed in quiet anger, leaving Evelyn standing alone in the massive living room while Connor helped Sarah pack baby Leo's bag upstairs to prepare for a doctor's visit.

Connor came back down the hardwood stairs, holding a thick leather binder containing all his father's original legal deeds, divorce lawyer documents from the past, and land titles. Evelyn stood near the fireplace, clutching a tissue in her hands, her voice reduced to a quiet tremble.

Evelyn: Connor, please. We can talk about this like adults. You don't have to throw your own mother out on the street.

Connor: You didn't care if Sarah and I were struggling when you took three thousand dollars from us every single month. You watched us sacrifice so you could buy designer clothes and pay for luxury trips to Florida.

Sarah: And you put your hands on me, Evelyn. You treated me like I was nothing in front of your whole family.

Evelyn: It was a mistake! I was stressed about the party! I lost my temper for one second!

Connor: A mistake is dropping a plate. Slapping my wife while she cares for my sick son is abuse. You have twenty-four hours to gather your personal clothes and vacate this house.

Evelyn: This is my home! Your father built this for us!

Connor: Dad built this home for his family, not for a thief who attacks his daughter-in-law. My lawyer is filing a formal restraint order tomorrow morning based on the assault.

Sarah walked down the hallway, carrying baby Leo, who had finally fallen fast asleep after receiving a dose of medicine and a cool bath. His fever was finally starting to drop, his skin cool to the touch once again.

Sarah: We gave you every chance to be a loving grandmother, Evelyn. But you thought power and money were more important than human basic kindness.

Evelyn: Where am I supposed to go? All my money is tied up in those Florida accounts that your lawyer just froze!

Connor: You can stay at a hotel using your own credit card. The monthly allowance from Dad's trust is officially revoked until every single penny of the hundred thousand dollars you took from us is fully repaid to our son's trust account.
