Chief Guard: Hold on! Nobody moves a single step out of this room!
The head of hotel security, a middle-aged man named Marcus, stepped forward holding a black master tablet. He walked briskly toward the center stage, his face stern and unusually cold as he looked at the groom. A wall-mounted security monitor near the American flag painting suddenly hummed to life with an electronic chime. The screen flickered bright white before displaying a crisp, black-and-white video feed from the hallway camera. Julian's confident face twitched slightly, his eyebrows pulling together as he stared up at the display screen.
Julian: What the hell is the meaning of this, Marcus? Drag the thief outside to the police car!
Marcus: With all due respect, Mr. Julian, hotel protocol requires us to review live feeds before making a felony arrest.
Victoria: This is an outrage! We are paying fifty thousand dollars for this ballroom today!
Marcus: Just look at the screen for ten seconds, ma'am. The camera records twenty-four hours a day without stopping.
The entire crowd turned their heads toward the large wall monitor hanging under the studio lighting. The black-and-white footage showed the main hallway outside the bridal suite from exactly forty-five minutes earlier. On the video, Clara could be seen pushing her heavy cleaning cart down the long carpeted hallway. She paused outside room 204, knocked three times, and then used her keycard to enter the room to work. A few seconds later, a second figure appeared on the high-definition monitor screen, walking cautiously down the corridor.
Julian: Turn that stupid tv off right now! This is completely unnecessary!
Marcus: Keep watching, sir. It gets very interesting right about here.
The figure on the screen was dressed in a tailored black suit, wearing heavy dark sunglasses inside the hotel corridor. The person looked left and right, checking to make sure no other staff members were walking down the hall. The figure then pulled out a thick, white paper envelope from an inside coat pocket. A moment later, a second person stepped out from the side utility closet to meet the figure. The camera zoomed in sharply, capturing the exact moment the white envelope was handed over in exchange for a small black velvet box.
Julian: What the hell is this nonsense? That could be anyone in a suit!
Marcus: Let's turn up the audio feed and enhance the visual angle on the main monitor.
The electronic monitor hummed loudly as Marcus tapped his tablet screen twice to clear the static. The video zoomed straight into the face of the person holding the large white envelope filled with cash. The dark sunglasses came off on video, revealing a face that everyone in the room recognized instantly. It was not a hotel worker, and it was certainly not Clara the maid standing in handcuffs. It was Julian's personal business assistant, a man who worked directly for the groom's hedge fund firm.
Guest 1: Wait a minute, isn't that Julian's right-hand man from his corporate office?
Guest 2: Why is he handing over a jewel box in the back service hallway during a wedding?
Clara: I told you! I told you all I never touched that box!
Victoria's head snapped around toward her groom, her sharp eyes wide with sudden suspicion and deep confusion. Her trembling hands gripped her designer dress as she watched the video continue to play on the screen. The footage clearly showed the assistant walking into the utility room while Clara was inside cleaning the bathroom. The assistant slipped the black velvet box directly into the pocket of Clara's extra apron hanging on the utility rack.
