Secrets In The Green Folder

My Evil Stepmother Tried Smashing My Life Until I Released Her Dark Secret

The heavy bedroom door shut firmly as Julian dragged his furious mother down the long, carpeted hallway of the Dallas mansion. Clara stood beside her bed for a moment, her chest heaving as she held the cold green leather folder close to her heart. The morning light washed over the room, but the warmth of the sun could not dispel the deep chill inside her veins. She sat down at her wooden writing desk, unlocking the top drawer with a small silver key she kept hidden around her neck on a thin chain.

Inside the green folder were months of quiet evidence she had gathered with the help of her late father’s trusted family lawyer, Mr. Harrison. When her father died unexpectedly three years ago, Victoria quickly seized control of the family business and the sprawling residential estate. She had claimed that Clara was mentally unfit to handle her father's vast financial settlement, convincing a local judge to sign temporary conservatorship papers. Clara had felt entirely helpless, stripped of her voice and forced to endure daily insults and domestic labor inside her own home.

Mr. Harrison: Clara, you must remain patient until we have absolute proof of her fraud.

Clara: How long do I have to pretend to be her servant, Mr. Harrison?

Mr. Harrison: Until we find the true copy of the will she hid from the probate court.

Clara opened the folder, running her trembling fingers over the original last will and testament of her father, Arthur Sterling. Attached to the legal documents were bank statements showing massive illegal transfers of money out of Clara’s trust fund directly into Victoria’s private accounts. Victoria had used the stolen money to pay off personal gambling debts, buy offshore property, and fund a lavish lifestyle for herself while telling everyone Clara was irresponsible.

A soft knock came at her bedroom door, interrupting her thoughts. Clara quickly closed the folder, hiding it beneath a sheaf of clean writing paper before calling out for the person to enter. Julian opened the door slowly, looking deeply ashamed as he stood in the doorway with his head bowed down.

Julian: Clara, can I speak to you for a moment? I am so sorry for what happened earlier.

Clara: Why now, Julian? You watched her treat me like trash for three years and said nothing.

Julian: I honestly did not know she was physically putting her hands on you like that.

Clara: You chose not to see it because it was convenient for you and your bank account.

Julian took a hesitant step inside the sunny room, looking around at the cracked picture frame on the floor and the metal vase resting on the bed. He scrubbed his face with both hands, sounding exhausted and burdened by the heavy truth he could no longer deny.

Julian: She told me you were sick, Clara. She told me the doctor said you needed rigid structure to heal.

Clara: She lied to you, Julian. She lied to everyone so she could steal my father’s life work.

Julian: What are you talking about? What life work?

Clara: My father left this house and the entire company to me, not her. And I am going to prove it today.

Julian gasped softly, stepping back toward the open hallway as if he had been struck by a physical blow. He looked down the empty corridor toward his mother’s locked master bedroom, the cold reality of her greed finally settling deep into his heart.

Julian: If what you are saying is true, she committed a serious crime, Clara.

Clara: It is a felony, Julian. And I am not protecting her for another single minute.
