Two police officers knocked loudly on the heavy front door of the home.
Mark opened the door wide and welcomed the uniformed officers inside immediately.
Police Officer: Sir, are you and your child completely safe right now?
Mark: Yes, we are safe, but my wife tried to flee the house.
Mark pointed toward the dark kitchen counter where the broken porcelain lay.
Mark: The evidence is all over the kitchen counter and dining table.
Mark: She put chemical poison from this bottle into my teacup this morning.
The female officer carefully secured the small glass vial inside a plastic bag.
The male officer walked toward Sarah who was crying hysterically near the hallway.
Sarah: It is all a misunderstanding officer! I love my dear husband!
Police Officer: Ma'am, please keep your hands where we can see them clearly.
Police Officer: We need to take a full statement from everyone present today.
The officer collected the paper towels soaked in the spilled tea liquid for testing.
They placed the shattered pieces of the porcelain cup inside clean sample bags.
Female Officer: Forensic testing will show us exactly what was inside this liquid.
Sarah: I didn't mean to hurt him! I was just stressed out!
Mark: You filled out a life insurance claim form behind my back!
Mark handed the insurance papers and financial documents to the police officer.
The officer read through the papers with a very serious look on his face.
Police Officer: Sarah, you are being placed under arrest for attempted murder.
The officer turned Sarah around and placed stainless steel handcuffs on her wrists.
Sarah sobbed loudly as she was led out the front door toward the cruiser.
Mark watched her go with a heavy weight lifted off his shoulders.
He knelt down on the hardwood floor and wrapped his arm around Lily.
Mark: You were so brave today, my sweet little girl.
Lily: I just wanted to protect you, Daddy.
