Marcus: Elena, take Lily and Liam upstairs to the private lounge where it's quiet.
Elena: Are you going to be okay, Marcus? This whole night has turned into a nightmare.
Marcus: The nightmare is over. I just need to make sure the legal paperwork for the trust fund is completely protected from Richard's lawyers.
Marcus walked over to his personal office on the second floor, accompanied by his chief security manager and Dr. Vance.
He unlocked his heavy oak desk and opened the fireproof safe mounted inside the wall.
Dr. Vance: Marcus, how did Richard even get access to the chemical? Cyanide of that grade isn't something you buy at a store.
Marcus: He used his position on the board of our chemical manufacturing subsidiary in Chicago. He's been planning this for months.
Security Manager: Sir, we just searched Richard's office desk down the hall. We found a signed life insurance policy on both you and young Liam.
Marcus: How much was the payout listed for?
Security Manager: Fifty million dollars. Set to transfer directly to his offshore corporate account upon confirmation of death.
Marcus slammed his hand onto the oak desk, anger flaring in his eyes as the full scale of his brother's betrayal became clear.
Marcus: He didn't just want the company. He wanted to collect a payday on my son's life.
Dr. Vance: It's terrifying to think what would have happened if that little girl hadn't jumped in when she did.
Marcus: She saved our lives. Without her, Liam and I would be lying on that marble floor right now.
There was a gentle knock on the heavy wooden door of the office.
Elena pushed the door open softly, holding a small tray with two cups of warm tea, with Lily walking shyly behind her dress.
Elena: Marcus, the police finished taking Julian's statement outside. He signed a full confession implicating Richard in the purchasing of the poison.
Marcus: Good. The district attorney will have more than enough evidence to keep him behind bars for the rest of his life.
Marcus walked over and knelt down on one knee in front of young Lily, looking into her innocent face with deep, heartfelt gratitude.
Marcus: Lily, I owe you an apology. When you knocked that cake out of Liam's hands, I was angry at first because I didn't understand.
Lily: It's okay... I was scared you were going to be mad at me for ruining the pretty party.
Marcus: You didn't ruin anything. You were the bravest person in this entire house tonight.
Lily: I just didn't want Liam to get hurt. He showed me his toy cars earlier and let me play with the red one.
Marcus: You're a hero, Lily. From this day on, you and your mother will never have to worry about anything ever again.
Elena: Mr. Morelli, you don't have to do that... we were just happy to help save Liam.
Marcus: I insist, Elena. Your family is part of ours now.
