Evelyn reached the foot of the grand wooden staircase with quick steps.
Her face looked pale, but her bright eyes burned with extreme anger.
She raised her sharp voice until it echoed off the tall walls.
Evelyn: Get out of my life and get out of my home!
Mark: Do not speak to my pregnant wife in that hateful tone!
Evelyn: She has manipulated you from the very beginning of your marriage!
Sarah took a hesitant step back as Evelyn stepped directly into her personal space.
The older woman waved her trembling hands aggressively toward Sarah's face.
Sarah: Evelyn, please stay back and let us talk quietly!
Evelyn: I want you out of this house this instant!
Evelyn made a sudden lunging gesture directly toward Sarah's upper chest.
She did not strike her, but the sudden movement terrified the young woman.
Sarah gasped in terror and stumbled backward over her own heels.
Her feet slipped completely on the smooth, polished hardwood oak floor.
Sarah: Mark! Help me, I'm falling!
Mark saw his wife losing her balance in a split second.
Panic surged through his veins as he reacted without thinking.
He darted forward across the vast open space of the foyer floor.
He slid hard on his knees across the shiny oak planks.
The impact hurt his knees, but he focused only on Sarah.
He reached out both arms just before she hit the hard ground.
He caught her weight securely against his chest and shoulders.
Mark: I've got you! I have you safe right now!
They landed safely together on the soft floor rug below the balcony.
A framed painting of the USA flag hung proudly behind them on the wall.
Sarah clutched her rounded belly with both hands while trembling hard.
Tears spilled quickly down her flushed, terrified cheeks.
Sarah: Is our baby okay? Please tell me our baby is safe!
Mark: You are safe, honey, just take deep breaths right now.
Mark turned his eyes upward to look at his standing mother.
His face looked twisted with intense rage and deep betrayal.
Mark: What is wrong with you, Mom? You nearly killed her!
Evelyn stood frozen near the balcony railing near the stairs.
Her mouth remained open in total shock at what had just happened.
Her hand moved slowly up to press against her own chest.
Evelyn: I... I did not mean to make her slip like that!
Mark: You came at her with pure hatred in your eyes!
Evelyn: Mark, you must believe me, it was an accident!
Sarah wept hysterically as she held onto Mark's grey suit jacket.
She felt sharp distress radiating through her whole body.
Sarah: Mark, my stomach feels so tight! We need help!
Mark pulled his cell phone quickly out of his jacket pocket.
His fingers trembled violently as he dialed three urgent digits.
He held the phone to his ear while comforting his weeping wife.
Mark: Stay calm, my love, help is coming right away.
Evelyn stared down at the terrifying scene on her foyer floor.
Her body trembled as the weight of her actions hit her.
She could not speak another word as Mark began to yell into his phone.
