The Blood On The Porcelain

Chloe: Gabriel! Are you insane?! You just hit me in our own home over a clumsy house maid!

Gabriel: I didn't hit a woman, Chloe. I stopped a cruel monster from abusing an innocent worker in my house!

Chloe: She spilled boiling tea on purpose! She's been jealous of me since the day she started working here!

Gabriel: I watched your fingers, Chloe. I saw you tip the spout right onto her arm!

Gabriel rushed past the dining table and dropped to his knees beside Elena, who was crouching near the sideboard, sobbing softly while clutching her raw, blistered forearm.

Gabriel: Elena, don't move. Let me see it.

Elena: It hurts so bad, Mr. Gabriel... it burns...

Gabriel: I know, Elena. I know. Marcus! Get the first aid kit from the master suite right now!

The estate manager, Marcus, rushed into the dining room carrying a white emergency box, his face pale as he saw the damage.

Marcus: Sir, I have cold burn cream and sterile bandages!

Gabriel: Apply it gently. Then get my personal car prepped. We're taking her to the hospital immediately.

Chloe: You're using your private chauffeur to take a maid to the emergency room?! Have you completely lost your mind?!

Gabriel: She is a human being under my roof, Chloe! Something you clearly know nothing about!

Chloe: I am your fiancée! We are getting married at the cathedral in three weeks! Our families signed the merger agreement last month!

Gabriel: The wedding is canceled, Chloe. The merger is off.

Chloe let out a high-pitched, hysterical laugh, stepping over the fallen porcelain pieces on the floor.

Chloe: You can't cancel the merger! My father controls sixty percent of the commercial real estate leases for your logistics firm! If you break our engagement, he will foreclose on your main distribution hubs in Dallas!

Gabriel: Let him try. I'd rather lose my distribution hubs than tie my life to a sociopath.

Chloe: You think my father will let you throw me away like garbage?! He will ruin you by sunset!

Gabriel: Your father doesn't own me, Chloe. And as of five seconds ago, you don't own a single thing in this mansion.

Elena: *Whimpering* Mr. Gabriel... please don't fight because of me... I can just leave...

Gabriel: You're not going anywhere, Elena. You didn't do anything wrong. Stay right here with Marcus.

Gabriel walked back to the head of the long marble table, picking up the diamond engagement ring he had dropped moments ago. He turned it over in his hand, his eyes cold as ice.

Gabriel: My mother gave me this ring before she passed away. She told me to give it to a woman with a kind heart, a noble spirit, and genuine grace.

Chloe: I have grace! I run three charity boards in this city!

Gabriel: You wear a mask for high society, Chloe. But behind closed doors, you beat staff and pour boiling liquids on young women who can't fight back.

Chloe: She is staff! We pay her a salary! She is supposed to endure minor accidents without causing a scene!

Gabriel: Pouring scalding tea on someone isn't a minor accident, Chloe. It's felony assault.

The heavy front doors of the mansion burst open, and three uniformed Dallas police officers entered the pristine foyer, led by Detective Vance.

Detective Vance: We received a 911 call reporting an active physical assault at this address. Who called the police?

Gabriel: I did, Detective. Over here.

Chloe: Vance! Tell your officers to stand down! I know your chief of police! We sat at the same table at the Mayor's Gala last week!

Detective Vance: I don't care who you sit with at galas, ma'am. Keep your voice down.
