The wealthy dinner guests sat frozen around the long wooden table.
Nobody dared to make a sound after Mark's furious shout echoed around.
One by one, the neighbors quietly stood up from their chairs.
They grabbed their coats from the rack and walked quickly out the front door.
Within two minutes, only the family remained in the bright dining room.
Evelyn crossed her arms and glared at her son with cold anger.
Evelyn: How dare you embarrass me in front of my closest friends!
Evelyn: I spent thousands of dollars organizing this special dinner tonight!
Mark: You forced my child to carry a heavy burning skillet!
Mark: You do not care about anyone but yourself, Evelyn!
Sarah brought a cold wet towel back from the downstairs bathroom.
She wrapped Lily's red hands gently while holding back her own tears.
Sarah: We need to take her to the urgent care clinic down the street.
Sarah: Her poor hands are starting to blister from the heat.
Mark stepped closer to Evelyn until he was standing right in front of her.
The bright overhead lights showed the pure rage burning in his eyes.
Mark: Don't you ever touch my daughter again!
Mark: Do you understand what I am telling you?
Evelyn took a hasty step backward on the sleek marble floor.
Her heel caught the edge of a rug and she stumbled into a chair.
Evelyn: You are talking to your mother with zero respect, Mark!
Evelyn: I raised you after your father passed away years ago!
Mark: You treated me like a worker then, and you try it now with Lily.
Mark: That ends today in this house.
Lily hid her face against Sarah's shoulder, still sobbing softly.
Mark scooped up his little girl gently with his left arm.
He kept his right hand raised toward Evelyn, blocking her from coming near.
Mark: You will pay for hurting her like this.
Mark: Pack your bags and leave this home tonight.
