Justice Takes Hold

His Disabled Wife Called A Woman He Thought Was Dead

The heavy oak doors were pushed open again as four armed Dallas police officers and two paramedics rushed into the grand living room. The paramedics immediately knelt beside Clara, checking her vital signs and placing an oxygen mask gently over her face. The police officers did not hesitate; they pulled Julian up from the floor, spinning him around and slapping heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists. Another officer pulled Evelyn up from her knees, cuffing her hands behind her back while she sobbed loudly, her satin robe hanging loose around her shoulders.

Officer Davis: Julian Vance, you are under arrest for attempted murder, grand larceny, corporate fraud, and unlawful restraint.

Julian: This is a civil family dispute! Call my divorce lawyer immediately!

Officer Davis: Your divorce lawyer isn't going to help you today, sir. The United States Attorney's Office issued an emergency warrant for your arrest an hour ago.

Evelyn: Please! I am just an employee! I didn't know the money was stolen!

Officer Davis: You can explain that to the federal judge, lady. Move out!

Julian was dragged across his glossy marble floor, his designer shoes dragging uselessly behind him as the officers pulled him toward the waiting police cruisers outside. He turned his head back one last time, looking at the disabled wife he had kept trapped for years. Clara looked directly into his eyes, her expression steady and strong, showing no fear whatsoever. The paramedics carefully lifted Clara from the floor, placing her gently back into a restored, upright position on a mobile stretcher so they could transport her to the hospital for observation. Victoria walked right beside the stretcher, holding her daughter's hand tightly in her own.

Victoria: You are free now, Clara. Every single asset, every piece of this company, and this entire estate is back in your hands where it belongs.

Clara: I never gave up hope, Mom. I knew one day someone would hear me.

Victoria: You were so brave today, my sweet girl. You saved your own life by making that call.

Clara: What happens to the business now?

Victoria: We rebuild it together. And we make sure nobody ever takes advantage of you again.

As the paramedics rolled Clara out through the grand entrance into the warm Texas sunlight, Victoria paused at the doorway. She looked back at the large framed American flag on the living room wall, taking a deep breath of clean air. The nightmare that had plagued their lives for three long years was finally over. The money had been frozen, the conspirators were heading to federal prison, and the rightful owners of the Sterling legacy were standing tall together once again.
