Fight For Life

Inside the trauma unit at Parkland Memorial Hospital, the room was filled with the rhythmic, rapid beeping of medical monitors. Evelyn lay on the emergency bed, intravenous lines attached to her arms as Dr. Harrison conducted an emergency ultrasound over her abdomen.

Evelyn: *Tearful* Doctor... please tell me... is my baby okay?

Dr. Harrison: Evelyn, you suffered severe blunt force trauma to your spine and lower pelvis. There is localized placental abruption, which is causing the internal bleeding.

Evelyn: Oh God... no, please no...

Dr. Harrison: We need to perform an emergency Caesarean section right now to save your child. Your baby is in distress, but if we act immediately, we can deliver her safely.

Evelyn: Do whatever you have to do! Please, just save my daughter!

The surgical team moved with trained precision, prepping Evelyn for surgery while rolling her into the main operating room. Within minutes, the medical staff worked beneath the bright surgical lights as Dr. Harrison delivered the tiny infant.

A quiet, frail cry echoed through the operating room, followed by a sudden wave of relief.

Nurse 1: We have a pulse! She's breathing!

Dr. Harrison: Time of birth: 3:42 PM. She's small at thirty weeks, but her lungs are strong!

Evelyn wept tears of pure gratitude behind her oxygen mask as the pediatric team wrapped her newborn daughter in a warm blanket, briefly placing the infant against her cheek before wheeling her to the neonatal intensive care unit.

Evelyn: *Sobbing softly* Thank you... thank you so much...

Three hours later, Evelyn was moved to a quiet recovery room. Detective Marcus stepped inside softly, holding a official police report folder.

Detective Marcus: How are you feeling, Evelyn?

Evelyn: Exhausted... but my daughter is alive. She's in the NICU, but the doctors say she's going to make a full recovery.

Detective Marcus: That is the best news I've heard all day. I wanted to update you on your sister's legal status.

Evelyn: Did her lawyer post bail?

Detective Marcus: The magistrate judge reviewed the stairwell security footage and denied bail. Victoria is being held without bond on felony assault and attempted manslaughter charges.

Evelyn: She really thought she could get away with it... she thought because we were inside the mansion, nobody would ever know the truth.

Detective Marcus: The video evidence is absolute. Her legal team is already trying to negotiate a plea deal, but the District Attorney is pursuing the maximum sentence.

Evelyn: I gave her so many chances, Detective. I wanted us to be sisters after Dad died... but her greed completely consumed her.

Detective Marcus: You don't have to worry about her anymore, Evelyn. She won't ever be able to harm you or your child again.
