Justice In The Boardroom

Her Stepmother Tore Her Wedding Dress Until Her Father Answered

Six months later, the morning sun poured into the top-floor boardroom of the Vance Global Logistics tower in downtown Dallas. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows offered a panoramic view of the city skyline.

At the head of the massive mahogany table sat Arthur Vance, looking sharp in a navy blue three-piece suit. Beside him sat Chloe, looking radiant, healthy, and holding her two-month-old baby girl, Lily, peacefully in her arms.

Across the table sat Mark and his father, Charles Sterling. Both men looked utterly defeated, their suits rumpled and their faces pale with exhaustion.

Charles: Arthur... please. We're begging you. The bank is foreclosing on our home next week. My shipping company has lost ninety percent of its valuation.

Arthur: You brought this on yourselves, Charles. You let your wife run wild, destroying lives and stealing money until she finally got caught on camera[cite: 1].

Mark: Chloe... look at little Lily. She has my eyes... please, let me at least set up a visitation schedule...

Chloe: The court granted me full legal and physical custody three months ago, Mark. You signed away your parental rights in exchange for my father dropping the secondary civil lawsuits against your estate.

Mark: I only signed because I had no money for lawyers! You forced me into a corner!

Chloe: You put yourself in that corner the day you chose your stepmother's greed over your own daughter's safety[cite: 1].

Arthur: Mr. Vance, here are the final liquidation papers for Sterling Shipping[cite: 1]. If you sign here, my conglomerate will absorb your remaining debts, allowing you to avoid personal bankruptcy.

Charles picked up the pen with a shaking hand, tears filling his aged eyes as he signed away his family's legacy on the dotted line.

Charles: It's done... thirty years of work, gone in a single afternoon...

Arthur: You should have taught your son how to be a real man, Charles. That would have saved your legacy.

Mark: What about Victoria? She was sentenced to twelve years in prison yesterday...

Arthur: Twelve years is a light sentence for what she did to my daughter[cite: 1]. She can spend that time reflecting on her choices behind bars.

Mark stared at Chloe, his voice barely a whisper as he saw the complete indifference in her eyes.

Mark: Do you hate me, Chloe?

Chloe: I don't feel anything for you, Mark. You're just a stranger who happened to be standing near me when my father showed me what real love looks like.
