The Blood on the Dress

Richard: This report is certified by the State Forensic Institute... it's a ninety-nine point nine percent biological match to my late father's stored genetic profile.

Eleanor: Oh, merciful heavens... my late husband had a daughter... my granddaughter is standing right in front of me in a maid's uniform!

Lily: Grandmother... I didn't come here to steal money. I came because my mother was dying and she wanted me to know who I really was.

Cynthia: Don't call her grandmother! You are a low-class street girl attempting to extort our family trust fund!

Richard: Who gave you those bruises on your face, Lily? Who made your nose bleed like this?

Lily lowered her head, fresh tears falling onto the marble floor as she pointed a small, trembling finger directly at Cynthia.

Lily: Mrs. Sterling found me reading the DNA report in the utility closet an hour ago. She threw me against the wall and punched me in the face to take the envelope from my hands.

Cynthia: She's making it up! She fell down the concrete stairs in the basement!

Lily: Look at your white gown, Mrs. Sterling! You have my blood on your left sleeve where you hit me!

Richard immediately grabbed Cynthia's arm, turning her white lace sleeve into the full bright daylight. A dark crimson bloodstain was clearly visible near her wrist cuff.

Richard: You beat my sister in the utility closet to cover up her identity?!

Cynthia: Richard, listen to me! I did it for us! I did it to protect our inheritance and our status in this city!

Eleanor: You vicious monster! You physically assaulted a child of the Sterling family inside our own home!

Cynthia: She isn't family! She's a bastard child born out of wedlock! She doesn't deserve a single cent of the Sterling estate!

Richard: My father's will explicitly stated that any biological child born to him would receive an equal share of the family trust fund, Cynthia!

Cynthia: That will was written twenty years ago! It's obsolete!

Lily: My mother suffered in poverty for two decades while you lived in this luxury mansion, Cynthia. She worked three jobs just to buy my insulin medication!

Cynthia: I don't care about your mother's miserable life! She was a nobody!

Richard: That's enough! Security! Get in here right now!

Two tall, uniformed security guards rushed through the double doors of the hall, standing at attention near the head of the marble staircase.

Security Guard: Yes, Mr. Sterling?

Richard: Restrain Cynthia immediately. Call the city police department and report a severe physical assault and extortion attempt.

Cynthia: Don't you dare touch me! I am the vice president of Sterling Enterprises!
