The Front Doors Burst Open

Jessica: What is that?! Why are there lights outside?!

Evelyn: Is that an ambulance? Who called an ambulance to my house?!

Before Evelyn could reach the front door, the heavy double doors swung open with a massive bang. Detective Reyes stepped inside, his badge pinned to his leather jacket, flanked by four armed police officers and two paramedics carrying a stretcher. Right behind them was Julian, his suit jacket unbuttoned, his face white with pure terror.

Julian: Clara!

Evelyn: Julian! What is the meaning of this intrusion?! Why did you bring police to our family gala?

Julian: Get away from my wife, Evelyn!

Julian pushed past Evelyn and rushed to Clara's side, dropping to his knees on the hard floor. He carefully cradled her head in his lap, his hands trembling as he saw the blood on her dress and the floor.

Julian: Oh God, Clara... baby, look at me. I'm right here.

Clara: Julian... our baby... they wouldn't let me get up...

Paramedic: Sir, please step back slightly so we can evaluate her. Ma'am, try to keep breathing slowly.

Detective Reyes: Officers, secure the room. Nobody leaves this foyer.

Jessica: Detective, this is a private estate! You have no right to barge in here! My mother owns this house!

Detective Reyes: Miss Sterling, I suggest you close your mouth right now. Mrs. Vance called me directly three minutes ago reporting a violent felony assault.

Evelyn: She's lying! She fell down the stairs because she was wearing clumsy shoes! Ask her yourself, she admitted it to us!

Julian: Shut up, Evelyn! Just shut your mouth!

Evelyn: Julian Vance! How dare you speak to your stepmother like that!

Julian: I know what happened, Evelyn! I know everything! Detective Reyes had a wiretap authorized on Clara's phone because of the extortion threats you two sent her last week!

Jessica gasped, taking a sharp step backward toward the wooden banister. Evelyn stood frozen, her eyes wide with shock.

Detective Reyes: That's right, ladies. Every single word spoken in this foyer for the last ten minutes was recorded live at precinct headquarters. We heard the shove, we heard the threats, and we heard you forcing a heavily pregnant woman to apologize while she lay bleeding on the floor.
