The Evil In The Dress

Her Stepmother Dropped The Baby From The Balcony

Clara: Mark, please! I need help! It was postpartum depression! I didn't know what I was doing!

Mark: Stop making excuses! You've been complaining about my late ex-wife's inheritance fund ever since the baby was born!

Nora: She told me yesterday that if the baby wasn't around, the five million dollar trust fund would go directly to her instead.

Mark: What? You wanted the trust fund money?

Clara: That trust fund belongs to the family! Why should a newborn get five million dollars while I have to ask you for permission to buy a handbag?

Mark: You are a monster, Clara. You tried to end an infant's life for money!

Clara: I built this life with you! I deserve that estate trust just as much as any child!

Mark: You don't deserve a single cent of my family's wealth. Nora, hold the baby upstairs in the nursery. Lock the door from the inside.

Nora: Right away, Mr. Mark.

Nora stood up carefully from the steps, holding the infant against her shoulder as she walked quickly up the grand staircase[cite: 1]. Clara glared at her as she passed, but Mark stepped directly in front of his wife, blocking her path.

Clara: Get out of my way, Mark! Where are you going with that phone?

Mark: I'm calling the police, and then I'm calling my divorce lawyer.

Clara: You can't call the police on your own wife! Think about the family reputation! Think about the headlines in the papers tomorrow!

Mark: I don't give a damn about the headlines! You dangled a baby over a balcony banister[cite: 1]!

Clara: I'll ruin you in court, Mark! I'll take half of this mansion! I'll take your cars, your business, and your bank accounts!

Mark: You signed a prenuptial agreement before we got married, Clara. And there's a clause in there specifically about criminal acts against family members.

Clara: What... what clause?

Mark: If either spouse engages in felony assault or attempted murder against any member of the household, the prenup is completely voided, and you walk away with zero dollars.

Clara's jaw dropped. She looked at the phone in Mark's hand, where the video clip was still saved on the screen[cite: 1].

Clara: Mark... please... we can work this out quietly! I'll go to therapy! I'll move into the guest house!

Mark: You're not moving into the guest house. You're moving into a state prison cell.

Mark hit three digits on his phone screen and placed the device against his ear. Clara lunged forward, trying to slap the phone out of his hand, but Mark caught her wrist mid-air and twisted it away.

Mark: Yes, operator? I need emergency police officers at the Sterling mansion immediately. My wife just attempted to murder my newborn child.
