Her Stepmother Cut Her Pearls Until Her Husband Stepped In

Inside a sprawling luxury mansion in Dallas, Texas, the atmosphere was suffocating. Victoria stood motionless on the polished hardwood floor, her chest rising and falling in rapid, shallow breaths. Facing her was Evelyn, her husband’s cold and merciless mother, holding a sharp pair of silver scissors in her right hand.

Evelyn: You don't belong in this family, Victoria. You never did.

Victoria: Evelyn, please. That necklace belonged to my mother!

Evelyn: It belongs to the Sterling estate now, and I decide who wears the family heirlooms.

With a sudden, aggressive snip, the steel blades sliced through the silk thread around Victoria's throat. White pearls exploded into the air, bouncing violently across the second-floor wooden balcony. Victoria gasped, stumbling backward in horror as her heels caught on the edge of the polished railing.

Evelyn: Look at you, tumbling like the garbage you are.

Victoria: AHHH!

Victoria's feet slipped entirely off the wooden ledge. She plunged backward into open air, surrounded by a cloud of scattering white pearls. Her scream echoed off the high ceilings of the mansion foyer as she fell toward the hard floor below.

Marcus: I've got you!

Out of nowhere, a tall man in a black leather jacket sprinted across the foyer. Marcus threw his arms out, catching Victoria mid-air just inches before her body smashed against the ground. The heavy thud of his landing echoed through the house as he absorbed the entire impact.

Victoria: Marcus... oh God, Marcus!

Marcus: I'm right here. Breathe, Victoria. I've got you.

Marcus gently lowered her onto the rug, resting her back against a large American flag hanging proudly on the foyer wall. He knelt over her, his eyes blazing with fierce concern as scattered white pearls lay around them on the floor.

Victoria: She caught me! She cut the necklace and pushed me!

Marcus: Ssh, keep quiet. You're safe now.

Marcus held her tightly against his chest, turning his head slowly toward the upper balcony. High above them, Evelyn stood at the wooden railing, watching them with a stone-cold expression. Marcus looked up, his face hardening with absolute, grim determination.

Marcus: I will handle her.
