Twenty minutes later, three police cruisers pulled up in front of the Vance estate, their red and blue lights flashing against the tall stone pillars. Julian stepped out of his car, followed closely by Detective Miller and two uniformed officers. Clara, the maid, met them at the front door, her eyes red from crying.
Clara: Mr. Julian! She's in the study upstairs! She's been going through your private filing cabinets ever since you left!
Julian: Did she touch the security server in the basement?
Clara: She tried to get in, but the keycard reader locked her out after three wrong password attempts!
Julian: Thank you, Clara. You did amazing today. You don't have to worry about your job here anymore—you're getting a promotion and a permanent raise.
Clara: I just wanted Mrs. Evelyn to be safe, sir. She's been so kind to all of us.
Julian nodded grimly, turning to Detective Miller as they walked toward the grand staircase. At the top of the landing, the study doors were wide open. Papers were scattered across the carpet, and Beatrice stood near a large steel safe, clutching a stack of blue property deeds in her hands.
Beatrice: What is the meaning of this police presence in my home?! Julian, have you lost your mind completely?!
Julian: Put those papers down, Beatrice.
Beatrice: These are the estate deeds! As the senior trustee of the Vance family trust, I have the right to audit these documents whenever I choose!
Detective Miller: Mrs. Vance, step away from the safe, please.
Beatrice: Do not order me around in my own residence, Officer! My father built this city's hospital wing! I know the mayor personally!
Julian: You aren't the senior trustee anymore, Mother. Father changed the trust charter three years before he passed away.
Beatrice froze, her eyes opening wide as she looked at her son in disbelief.
Beatrice: What are you talking about?! Your father promised me sole control of the estate assets!
Julian: He knew how cruel you could be to people you thought were beneath you. He added a moral conduct clause to the trust fund. If you ever faced criminal charges for violence or abuse against a family member, your trustee rights are revoked instantly.
Beatrice: That's a lie! You're making that up to rob me of my inheritance!
Julian walked over to the desk computer, typed in a twelve-digit administrator passcode, and clicked a small icon labeled "Foyer Camera - High Definition." A video file opened on the large screen, showing the exact moments from earlier that morning.
The screen clearly showed Beatrice grabbing Evelyn's face, forcing the glass into her mouth, and shoving the wheelchair over onto the marble floor with full physical force.
Detective Miller: That is crystal clear evidence, Mr. Vance. Mrs. Vance, place your hands behind your back.
Beatrice: No! Get away from me! It was an accident! She tripped over her own dress!
Detective Miller: The video shows you pushing the chair with both hands, ma'am. You are under arrest for aggravated domestic assault and reckless endangerment.
