Uncovering the Hidden Past

Margaret: A coma? Julian, do you really expect me to believe another one of your lies?

Julian: It's not a lie! Look at my neck, Margaret! Look at the scar!

Julian reached up with shaking fingers, pulling down the collar of his black tuxedo shirt to reveal a jagged, four-inch white surgical scar running along his collarbone.

Julian: My mother found out you were pregnant four years ago. She knew I was going to leave the family business and give up my inheritance to marry you permanently.

Margaret: She offered me half a million dollars to leave the city, Julian. I turned it down and threw the check in her face!

Julian: And when you refused her money, she had her driver sabotage my steering column on the night I was driving to meet you at the train station!

David: Julian, if you're making up stories to cause a scene at my charity gala, I'll have security drag you out into the street.

Julian: I'm not making it up, David! Check the police reports from Geneva, dated November 14th, 2022! My plane never even took off voluntarily!

Margaret felt the room spin slightly. She looked at Julian's bruised cheek, then down at the deep scar on his neck. The sheer panic in his eyes looked terrifyingly real.

Margaret: If you were in a hospital... how did you get back here?

Julian: I woke up eight months ago. My memory was fractured, but I had one picture in my wallet—the photo of you wearing this exact emerald green dress on our engagement night.

Lily: Mommy, my leg hurts from standing.

David: Come here, sweetheart. Let me pick you up.

David reached down, gently lifting little Lily into his arms and resting her head against his shoulder. Lily wrapped her small arms around David's neck without hesitation, looking over at Julian with curious, innocent eyes.

Julian: She... she looks just like my sister when she was little.

David: She's a happy, safe child, Julian. Whatever happened between you and your mother in Europe doesn't change the fact that Margaret and Lily have built a life here without you.

Julian: I didn't come here to ruin your life, Margaret. I came here to give you this.

Julian reached into his tuxedo jacket again, carefully pulling out a thick, legal leather binder stamped with the official seal of the State District Court.

Margaret: What is that?

Julian: It's the full confession from my mother's former personal assistant. Along with the original financial records showing she stole your late father's company trust fund five years ago.

Margaret: My father's trust fund...? You mean his bankruptcy wasn't real?

Julian: My mother drained his accounts to force your family into financial ruin so I would be forced to marry a wealthy heiress instead of you.

Margaret covered her mouth with her hand, a soft gasp escaping her lips as tears welled up in her eyes once more. She turned to look at David, whose calm expression had suddenly turned rigid and sharp.

David: You have proof that Victoria Sterling orchestrated the collapse of Mitchell Logistics?

Julian: Every single bank transfer, wire record, and forged signature is inside this folder. I turned the master copies over to the district attorney two hours ago.

David: Victoria Sterling is going to prison for thirty years if these documents are authentic.

Julian: She was arrested at her mansion twenty minutes ago, David. That's why I came here tonight. I wanted Margaret to hear it from me before it hit the news.
