The officers led Eleanor down the grand staircase slowly. She kept her head turned away from the police cameras and the paramedics, but her face was twisted in deep bitterness. As she passed by Mark and Victoria, she tried to speak one last time, but Mark stepped directly in front of her path, blocking her view of his wife.
Eleanor: Mark, please... we can settle this within the family! Think of your father's legacy!
Mark: My father was an honest man who believed in justice. He would be disgusted by what you did today.
Eleanor: I built this life with him!
Mark: You built nothing except a tower of greed. Your lawyer can talk to mine about your total removal from the estate fund.
Officer Miller guided Eleanor through the tall front doors and into the back seat of the patrol car parked outside. The heavy door slammed shut, cutting off her voice forever. The paramedics carefully lifted Victoria onto the cushioned stretcher, securing her comfortably for the ride to the hospital evaluation center.
Paramedic: We are going to take her to the city hospital for a full ultrasound and observation check, sir. You can ride upfront with us.
Mark: Thank you so much. I will be right beside her the whole time.
Mark squeezed Victoria's hand as they wheeled her out into the bright afternoon air. The warm sun washed over them, making the dark memory of the balcony attack feel like a bad dream that was finally ending. The fresh air smelled clean and sweet, far away from the cold marble walls of the mansion's interior.
Three days later, Victoria sat comfortably in a cozy armchair in the living room of a bright, beautiful cottage near the ocean. Mark had decided to sell the massive mansion on the hill and move his family to a peaceful seaside neighborhood where they could start fresh without any dark memories looming over them. The money from the mansion sale was placed into a secure trust fund for their son's future education and medical care.
Victoria: It feels so quiet here, Mark. So peaceful.
Mark: This is where we belong, sweetheart. No grand staircases, no bitter family fights, just us.
Victoria: Did your lawyer finish the paperwork regarding Eleanor's trust share?
Mark: Yes. The judge denied her bail due to the clear video evidence of attempted murder. Her inheritance access has been permanently revoked by the court.
Victoria smiled softly, resting her hand over her round stomach. She could feel her baby boy kicking actively inside her, healthy and strong. Mark walked over and sat on the wooden armrest beside her, wrapping his arm around her shoulders to pull her close against his chest.
Mark: We are safe now. Nobody is ever going to hurt you or our boy again.
Victoria: I know. You saved us back then, Mark. You caught us when everything was falling apart.
Mark: And I will keep catching you for the rest of our lives.
They looked out the large front window at the blue ocean waves crashing gently against the sandy shore under the bright daylight. Justice had been served, the greedy past was locked away forever, and their small family was finally free to welcome their new life with open hearts and complete peace of mind.
