A Gift Of Gratitude

Marcus: Clara, step over here for a moment, please.

Clara, still wearing her server shirt and apron, stood nervously near the edge of the head table, wiping her hands on her apron.

Clara: Yes, Mr. Sterling?

Marcus: If you hadn't worn this ring to work tonight, I would have spent the rest of my life believing my wife was dead. You saved my family.

Clara: I was just trying to help my brother, sir. I didn't mean to cause all this chaos.

Sarah: You didn't cause chaos, Clara. You gave me my life back. You gave my son his mother back.

Sarah reached out, taking the square-cut diamond ring from Clara's hand. She slid it onto her own finger, looking at Clara with deep warmth and gratitude.

Marcus: How much does your brother's medical treatment cost, Clara?

Clara: The surgery and physical therapy come out to about eighty thousand dollars, sir. It's way more than I could ever earn as a server.

Marcus pulled a sleek black pen and a checkbook from his inner tuxedo pocket. He wrote quickly across the paper, tore off the check, and placed it directly into Clara's hand.

Clara: Five... five hundred thousand dollars?! Mr. Sterling, I can't accept this!

Marcus: It's not a donation, Clara. It's a reward. Pay for your brother's surgery, pay off your debts, and buy yourself a house. You will never have to work as a server again unless you want to.

Clara: Oh my God... Thank you! Thank you so much!

Clara burst into tears of joy, wrapping her arms around Sarah and Marcus in a tight hug. Toby smiled up at them, holding his mother's hand tightly.

Toby: Can we go home now, Mommy?

Sarah: Yes, sweetheart. We are going home, and we are never going to be separated again.

Marcus put his arm around Sarah's waist, pulling her close as they walked out of the ballroom together, leaving behind the dark web of lies and stepping into a bright, safe future.
