Liam: Walk ahead of me, Sarah. Don't worry about my mother.
Evelyn: If you step foot in that study, Liam, I will call our corporate lawyers and have Sarah escorted off the property by security!
Liam: Go ahead and call them, Mother. Tell them to bring the original partnership contracts while they're at it.
Liam grabbed his suitcase handle and led Sarah out of the bright white kitchen, leaving Evelyn standing alone in her dark green gown.
They walked down the grand marble hallway toward the heavy mahogany doors of his late father's private library.
Sarah: Mr. Liam, your mother is very powerful in Dallas. If she wants me gone, she can destroy my family.
Liam: My mother is powerful because people are afraid to stand up to her. I'm not afraid of her anymore.
Sarah: Why are you helping me like this? I'm just a maid here.
Liam: You're not just a maid, Sarah. Your father worked alongside my dad for fifteen years. He helped build Sterling Enterprises from the ground up.
Sarah: My dad always told me he had a stake in the company, but when he died, your mother told us there was nothing left for us.
Liam: My mother lied to you so she could keep the entire inheritance for herself and her social clubs.
Liam pushed open the heavy mahogany doors of the library, revealing high bookshelves, polished wood paneling, and a large executive desk sitting under the afternoon sunlight.
Sarah: The envelope was inside the hidden wooden drawer right under the brass clock.
Liam: She said she burnt it, but my mother never burns original paperwork. She keeps everything in her wall safe behind the painting.
Liam walked over to the large oil painting of the Dallas skyline hanging behind the desk and swung it open, exposing a heavy steel digital safe.
Sarah: Do you know the combination code?
Liam: My father set the combination before he passed. It's the date he signed the original founding papers of the company.
Liam pressed the keys rapidly: 0-4-1-2-1-9-9-8. The digital lock beeped twice, and the heavy steel door clicked open.
Sarah: It opened!
Liam: Let's see what she was trying so desperately to hide.
Liam pulled out three thick black folders tied with red ribbon, flipping through the yellowed pages inside.
Sarah: Is the trust document in there?
Liam: It's right here. And it's signed by both my father and your father, certified by a public notary.
Sarah: What does it say, Mr. Liam?
Liam: It says Thomas Reed's heirs are entitled to twenty percent of all corporate dividends, along with a three-million-dollar cash trust fund upon his passing.
Sarah dropped to her knees beside the leather armchair, holding her face in her hands as silent sobs wracked her body.
Sarah: Three million dollars... my sister could have had her kidney surgery three years ago...
Liam: My mother hid this from you for five years while you worked for minimum wage in our kitchen, wiping down marble counters.
Sarah: How could anyone be so cruel?
Liam: Because to people like my mother, money is more important than human lives. But that ends today.
The library doors suddenly slammed open, and Evelyn walked in, flanked by two large men in dark security suits.
Evelyn: Put those files back in the safe right now, Liam, or these officers will remove you from the premises!
