Justice Comes Calling

Margarethe: You called the police on your own wife?! Are you completely out of your mind, Julian?!

Julian: I called the sheriff's department the moment Leo popped your fake baby bump on the live feed upstairs.

Margarethe: Julian, please! Think of the publicity! Think of what this will do to the company's valuation on Wall Street!

Julian: The company will survive a scandal. What it won't survive is letting a thief manage its assets from the inside.

Officer Ramirez: Vance family? We received a distress call regarding a grand larceny and domestic fraud in progress.

Two tall police officers stepped through the heavy double doors, their heavy boots thudding against the marble floor. Officer Ramirez looked directly at Margarethe, taking in the deflated red satin robe, the plastic harness hanging out, and the tear-stained face of the woman standing by the flag.

Julian: Officer Ramirez, thank you for coming so quickly. This is my wife, Margarethe Vance. She has been committing grand theft and systematic wire fraud against my family trust.

Margarethe: Don't listen to him! This is a domestic dispute! He's trying to frame me so he doesn't have to pay spousal support during our divorce!

Officer Ramirez: Ma'am, please keep your voice down. We have a copy of the high-definition security recording streaming directly to our precinct server right now.

Margarethe: What?! How do you already have the footage?!

Julian: Our home security system automatically uploads flagged emergency clips directly to the local police department's digital evidence locker.

Eleanor: She also stole my late mother's diamond ring from the downstairs safe last night. I noticed it missing from the velvet box two hours ago.

Margarethe: That ring was a gift! You gave it to me for Christmas last year!

Eleanor: I gave you a silver necklace for Christmas. You stole the four-carat heirloom ring from my private vanity table while I was taking a nap!

Officer Ramirez: Ma'am, turn around and place your hands behind your back.

Margarethe: Get your hands off me! Do you know who I am?! I am the lady of this estate! You can't touch me like a common criminal!

Officer Ramirez: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.

The metallic click of hand-cuffs echoed sharply in the large foyer. Margarethe struggled against the officer's grip, her bright red robe tearing at the shoulder as she was spun around towards the front door.
