The Fall of the Vance Legacy

Marcus: A warrant?! On what grounds?! This is a civil corporate dispute!

Officer Hayes: Grand larceny, wire fraud, and embezzlement of union pension funds, Mr. Vance. You have the right to remain silent.

Chloe: No! Get your hands off my father! You can't arrest him at our charity gala!

Officer Hayes: Step back, young lady, or you will be arrested for obstruction of justice.

Clara: Actually, Detective Hayes, you might want to look into her as well. That dress she's wearing was purchased with a corporate credit card tied directly to the stolen pension account.

Chloe: You wouldn't dare! This is my personal dress!

Clara: It was bought with stolen money, Chloe. Which means technically, you don't even own the dress you're wearing.

The entire crowd erupted into murmurs and quiet laughter as Chloe's own words were thrown right back at her.

Chloe: You witch! You ruined my life!

Clara: You ruined your own life the second you placed your hands on an innocent worker and assumed your money made you invincible.

The police officers pulled Marcus's arms behind his back, snapping heavy steel handcuffs around his wrists in front of all two hundred wealthy donors.

Marcus: Chloe, call our defense attorney! Tell him to freeze the trust accounts!

Clara: The trust accounts have already been frozen by order of the federal prosecutor, Marcus. You won't be using a single cent of that stolen money to pay for your legal defense.

Marcus: Clara, please! Think of your father! We were friends for thirty years!

Clara: My father was a man of honor who respected every worker in his company. He would be disgusted to see what you became.

Detective Hayes escorted the pale, trembling Marcus Vance down the aisle toward the exit as the guests stepped aside to let them pass.

Chloe stood alone in the center of the floor, her makeup ruined by tears, clutching her expensive dress as everyone stared at her with open contempt.

Chloe: Someone help me... please! Is anyone going to help us?!

Not a single guest moved. The elite crowd simply turned their backs on her, leaving her completely isolated in the middle of the grand room.
