The Missing Trust Files

Liam: Maya, unstrap Leo right now and hand him to me. You are not washing another dish in this mansion.

Maya: Liam, her lawyer came here two days ago. They made me sign papers in the study while you were unreachable over the Atlantic.

Liam: What kind of papers, Maya?

Victoria: Don't bother asking her, Liam. She doesn't have the brain capacity to understand complex corporate estate transfers.

Liam: Shut your mouth, Victoria! Maya, tell me what you signed.

Maya: She said if I didn't sign the temporary custody waiver, she would call the Dallas police and report my engagement ring as stolen property.

Liam: My mother gave you that ring before she died! It’s legally yours!

Victoria: Your late mother’s jewelry belongs to the primary estate holder, which happens to be me under your father's updated codicil.

Liam: My father had severe dementia during his final six months. He couldn't sign a grocery list, let alone a codicil!

Victoria: The notary public stamped it, darling. That makes it legally binding in the state of Texas.

Liam unbuckled the baby carrier from Maya’s shoulders, gently lifting sleeping little Leo into his arms. Maya sank against the marble counter, wiping her wet face with a cotton towel.

Maya: She took my cell phone, Liam. She locked my car in the garage and took the keys so I couldn't drive to my sister's house.

Liam: You imprisoned my wife in my own home?!

Victoria: I simply restricted her access to private property. She is an uneducated girl from east Dallas who married you for money.

Liam: She married me when I was working twenty hours a day in a rental garage, long before my father’s company made its first million!

Victoria: And look at her now. Crying over dishes while wearing a cheap tan dress. She doesn't belong in Highland Park.

Liam: Where is the signed custody waiver, Victoria?

Victoria: Resting safely inside my attorney's briefcase upstairs. He'll be filing it with the family court at nine o'clock tomorrow morning.

Liam: You think a forged waiver will stand up against the chief executor of the Sterling Trust?

Victoria: You aren't the executor anymore, Liam. Page fourteen of the updated trust names me as sole executor until Leo turns twenty-five.

Liam turned toward the grand hallway, carrying his son securely against his chest while reaching into his blue blazer pocket for his phone.

Liam: Maya, grab your purse. We are going straight to Arthur Vance’s law office downtown.

Victoria: Arthur Vance doesn't represent you anymore, Liam. I fired him three days ago on behalf of the board.

Liam: You can't fire the lead attorney of a federal trust without a seventy-five percent board majority vote!

Victoria: Check the board roster, sweet boy. I bought out your uncle's shares yesterday morning.
