Biker Leader: What's your name, little lady?
Maya: Maya, sir. Maya Miller.
Biker Leader: I'm Jax. What kind of truck took your daddy's trailer, Maya?
Maya: It was a big black pickup with silver spikes on the wheels. They laughed when daddy begged them to stop.
Jax's eyes narrowed as he looked back at his second-in-command, a heavily tattooed biker named Bear.
Jax: Silver spikes on the rims. That sounds like Miller's crew from across the county line.
Bear: Those vultures are preying on stranded families again, Jax?
Jax: Looks like it. And they picked the wrong family today.
Maya: Is $93 really not enough? I have two quarters in my pocket too!
Jax: Maya, put that money back in your pocket right now. Put it away.
Maya: But daddy said nothing in this world is free...
Jax: Out here, neighbor helps neighbor. That's the law of the highway.
Bear: You hear the boss, kiddo. Put your wallet away. We're your mechanics today.
Maya carefully folded her small bills and slipped them into the pocket of her yellow dress[cite: 1].
Maya: Thank you, Mr. Jax. My daddy is really hurt. His leg got twisted when they unhooked the hitch.
Jax: He's hurt? Where is he right now?
Maya: About two miles back, under the big oak tree near the old mile marker.
Jax: Bear, grab the first-aid kit out of the chase rig. Call Doc on the radio.
Bear: On it, Jax. Doc is two minutes behind us with the trailer haul.
Suddenly, the high-pitched screech of tires echoed from the edge of the paved highway[cite: 1].
A dusty black pickup truck pulled up near the gas station air pumps, its engine idling loudly.
Two rough-looking men inside the cab stared at the crowd of motorcycles parked around the station[cite: 1].
Maya gasped, grabbing Jax's leather vest with her small hands.
Maya: That's them! That's the truck that took our trailer!
Jax: Are you sure, sweetheart?
Maya: Yes! Look at the shiny spikes on their wheels!
Jax turned slowly toward the truck, his relaxed demeanor instantly vanishing into cold authority.
Jax: Boys, looks like the trash brought itself right to our doorstep.
Bear: Want us to block the exit, boss?
Jax: Block every inch of this road. Nobody leaves until this little girl gets her family's life back.
