Mark: What is this?! Who gave you permission to break into my house?!
Senator Vance: Put the belt down right now, Mark. Before my officers put you on the floor.
An elderly Caucasian American official in a dark, tailored suit stepped firmly into the sunlit room, his jaw set like granite. Flanking him were four uniformed police officers, their hands resting on their holstered weapons as they fanned out across the marble floor.
Mark: Senator Vance?! What are you doing here?! This is private property!
Senator Vance: It was private property. Right now, it's a crime scene.
Evelyn: Senator, this is a outrageous misunderstanding! My son was just having a private family discussion with his wife!
Senator Vance: Is that what you call raising a leather belt against a pregnant woman, Evelyn?
Evelyn: She fell! She's hysterical! You can't trust anything she says!
Sarah: I didn't fall... Senator, please... help me...
Senator Vance walked past Mark without a trace of fear, stepping over to the sofa and gently placing his heavy wool coat over Sarah's trembling shoulders.
Senator Vance: Easy, my dear. You're safe now. Nobody in this house will ever touch you again.
Mark: Hey! Get away from my wife! You have no warrant! You have no right to be in my living room!
Officer Miller: Stand down, Mr. Sterling! Keep your hands where we can see them!
Mark: Call my lawyer right now, Mom! Call 911 right now!
Senator Vance: You don't need to call 911, Mark. The police are already standing in your living room. And as for a warrant, I brought something much better.
Senator Vance reached out his hand toward the antique wooden mantel clock sitting on the side table. He opened the carved back panel and pulled out a sleek black smartphone that was glowing with an active transmission screen.
Senator Vance: We've been watching your entire 'private family discussion' on a live federal feed for the last twenty minutes.
Mark: What... what are you talking about?!
Senator Vance: Sarah contacted my office three days ago. She didn't just ask for protection, Mark. She provided us with the master ledger for your offshore trust funds.
Mark's face drained of all color, his skin turning a sickly gray under the bright natural daylight. He dropped the leather belt onto the marble floor, where it landed with a dull, heavy thud.
Mark: She... she gave you the ledger?
Evelyn: Mark! What does he mean?! What ledger?!
Senator Vance: The ledger that proves your son has been laundering millions of dollars through fraudulent real estate contracts across Dallas, Evelyn. The same money he used to buy this very mansion.
Sarah: I told you, Mark... I told you I would never let you hurt our baby.
Mark: You traitorous little witch! I gave you everything! A life of luxury! A mansion! A trust fund!
Officer Miller: Hands behind your back, Sterling! Right now!
Officer Miller stepped forward, grabbing Mark's wrist and twisting it firmly behind his back. The sharp, metallic click of handcuffs echoed through the open living room, cutting through Mark's furious screams.
