Mark held his sleeping son tight against his grey shirt chest.
He looked at his wife and then at his wet maid.
Mark: Victoria, calm down and tell me what happened.
Victoria: I saw her push the stroller into the deep water!
Victoria: She was angry because I gave her extra cleaning chores!
Elena shook her head vigorously as water dripped down her face.
Elena: I was cleaning the tables when she pushed it!
Elena: I jumped in because I thought Noah was inside!
Victoria pointed an angry finger directly at Elena's wet face.
Victoria: She is lying to save her job, Mark!
Victoria: Fire her right now and call the police on her!
Mark looked deeply troubled as he looked between the two women.
He knew Elena was always honest, gentle, and hardworking.
Yet his wife sounded completely terrified and full of sudden rage.
Mark: Elena, is this true? Did you lose your temper?
Elena: No, sir! I would never harm anything in this house!
Elena: I jumped into the pool to save your son!
Victoria stepped between Mark and Elena with a bitter scowl.
Victoria: Are you taking the maid's word over your wife?
Victoria: Look at the mess she made on our expensive deck!
Noah woke up from the loud yelling and began crying softly.
Mark patted the baby's back gently to comfort his sweet child.
Mark: Everyone stop shouting at once while the baby sleeps!
Elena wiped a cold tear from her cheek as she stood firm.
Elena: Please believe me, Mr. Sterling, I am innocent.
Victoria: Get off our property before I call the sheriff!
