Mark rushed up the grand staircase two steps at a time in full panic.
He turned the corner and saw Victoria swinging her hands toward Carla wildly.
Carla held Leo tightly against her chest while backing away toward the wall.
Victoria: Hand that child over right now, Carla!
Carla: Don't you dare touch him!
Victoria reached out in frustration and struck Carla across her cheek with force.
Carla gasped sharply and gasped from the pain, but she held Leo safely.

Mark let out a loud shout that stopped both women in their tracks.

Victoria: She is lying to save her job after breaking my expensive vase!
Mark looked at Carla's red cheek and then down at his weeping son.
He stepped closer and gently pulled back Leo's tiny tuxedo sleeve.
Dark red marks were clearly visible on the child's small wrist and arm.
Mark's heart sank into his chest as absolute fury took over his mind.
He glared directly at Victoria with cold, protective anger in his eyes.
Mark: You touch my son again and you are dead to this family!
Victoria: Mark, you cannot believe a poor maid over your legal wife!
Mark: The marks on his arm do not lie, Victoria!
Victoria stepped back in shock as Mark stood firmly in front of Carla.
