Richard stepped into the sunlit foyer holding his leather briefcase tightly.
He stopped in his tracks as he saw Sarah holding his weeping son.
His face showed total shock and deep concern for his baby boy.
Richard: What did you just do to my child?!
His voice echoed loudly off the tall marble walls of the entryway.
Sarah took a quick breath and looked straight into her employer's eyes.
She knew this was her only chance to reveal the full truth.
Sarah: Sir, please listen!
Sarah: Your wife was dragging his carrier across the cold floor!
Sarah: She left him crying and walked away!
Victoria gasped loudly and rushed toward her husband with wide panicked eyes.
Victoria: Shut up!
Victoria: She's lying, don't listen to her!
Victoria tried to place her hand on Richard's arm to distract him.
Richard stepped back and looked between his wife and the young maid.
He saw the red marks on his baby's cheeks from crying so hard.
He saw how tightly the infant clung to Sarah's uniform top.
Richard: Is this true, Victoria?
Victoria: Of course not, my love!
Victoria: This maid is trying to start trouble because she wants money!
Victoria: I was just moving his carrier closer to the bright sunlight!
Sarah shook her head firmly as she held the baby safe.
Sarah: That is not what happened, sir.
Sarah: I saw everything with my own eyes from the doorway.
Sarah: She spoke very harshly to your little boy.
Victoria raised her voice in anger and pointed a finger at Sarah.
Victoria: Get out of this house right now, you terrible girl!
Victoria: You are fired as of this very second!
Richard: No one is leaving until I figure this out!
Richard's firm tone made both women stop talking instantly.
He walked closer to Sarah and gently took his baby into his arms.
The infant rested his small head against his father's strong chest.
Richard: It's okay now.
Richard: Daddy's here.
Richard looked down at his son with deep unconditional affection.
Then he raised his head and looked sharply at his wife Victoria.
The affection in his eyes was replaced by cold doubt and rising suspicion.
He knew Sarah had always been an honest and hardworking staff member.
He also knew Victoria had been acting distant ever since the child was born.
Richard: We are going into my office right now.
Richard: Both of you will tell me everything that happened today.
