The Texas heat was heavy, but inside the air-conditioned foyer of the Vance mansion, everything was cool and white. Grand marble stretched across the wide floor, reflecting the warm sunlight streaming through the massive glass windows. Arthur Vance stood near the center staircase adjusting his tie, reviewing a thick stack of corporate documents. As the head of Vance Enterprises, his daily schedule was filled with high-stakes financial meetings and legal consultations regarding his vast family estate. Suddenly, the heavy double doors creaked open, breaking the silence of the massive house.
Two tall security guards walked in escorting a small child wearing a dusty pink dress. Her yellow hair was messy, and wet tears streamed down her cheeks, leaving clean trails through the dust on her face. Her chest heaved with heavy sobs as she clutched a small plastic bracelet in her shaking left hand. Arthur frowned, setting his legal files down on a nearby side table as he stepped forward to intercept the guards.
Arthur: What is going on here? Why is there a child inside my house?
Security Guard: Sir, she bypassed the perimeter fence near the east driveway. She refused to leave and kept screaming your name.
Evelyn: Are you Uncle Arthur? Please, you have to help me!
Arthur crouched down on the smooth white tile to match her height, his stern face softening slightly at the sight of her pure distress.
Arthur: Yes, I am Arthur. How do you know my name, little girl? Who brought you here?
Evelyn: MY MOMMY HAS BEEN MISSING FOR THREE DAYS! She said we were coming to see you, but then she vanished!
Arthur's mind raced as he processed her words. He looked closely at the young girl's facial features and recognized the familiar shape of his brother's eyes. His late brother had passed away two years ago, leaving behind a young wife named Sarah and a newborn baby girl. Arthur had been trying to track down Sarah's contact info for months regarding her share of the family trust fund, but his own wife, Victoria, had claimed Sarah moved away to Europe and cut off all family contact.
Arthur: Your mother is Sarah? Where did you last see her?
Evelyn: In this house! We came three nights ago when it was dark! Mommy told me to wait in the garden house, but she never came back out!
Arthur stood up straight, his face turning pale as he stared at his security team. The implications were horrifying and immediate.
Arthur: Lock down all exit gates immediately. Nobody leaves this property until we find out what is going on here.
