The grand ballroom was filled with sunlight streaming through tall glass windows that stretched from the polished hardwood oak floor to the ceiling. White crown molding framed the vast room, and a massive USA flag painting hung proudly on the main wall behind the head table. Hundreds of wealthy guests sat around round tables, sipping expensive wine and laughing. The rich smell of catered steak filled the air as servers moved quietly between tables. It was supposed to be the wedding of the decade, a million-dollar event joining two powerful families. Everyone in town was talking about the merger, the trust fund, and the massive estate that would change hands today.
Hannah held her silver serving tray tight until her knuckles turned white under her pale skin. Her dark waitress uniform felt stiff and hot under the bright venue lights. She had a visible purple bruise on her forehead that she had tried to cover with makeup, but it stood out clearly under the high-key daylight. She stepped past the ice sculptures and heavy floral arrangements, her eyes locked on the front table. Her heart was pounding hard against her ribs like a trapped bird. She knew that doing this would blow up her entire life, but she had no choice left.
At the center of the main table sat the groom, Marcus, looking dashing in a custom black tuxedo. Next to him sat a stunning woman wearing a dark red velvet gown and a flashing ruby necklace. That was Evelyn, the woman who thought she owned the whole room and everyone inside it. Evelyn was laughing softly, touching her diamond earrings, looking like royalty. She didn't notice Hannah walking straight toward her until the young waitress stopped right in front of the head table. The sudden movement made a few nearby guests pause their quiet chatter.
Waitress: What on earth are you doing?
Hannah's voice cracked through the soft wedding music, making several people look up in total surprise. Evelyn froze, her wine glass stopping halfway to her mouth as her eyes turned cold and mean. The groom looked up from his plate, confused by the sudden loud interruption. Hannah didn't back down even though her knees were trembling inside her plain shoes. She looked straight into Evelyn's eyes, her own eyes burning with raw pain and anger. She had suffered for three long days because of what this rich woman had done to her. Now, in front of the entire city's high society, the truth was finally coming out.
Woman in Red: Are you insane? Security, get her out!
Evelyn slammed her glass down on the white tablecloth, her voice echoing loudly across the room. Two big security guards in dark suits immediately began moving quickly toward the main table. The guests began whispering to each other, leaning in close to catch every bit of the rising drama. The groom looked around nervously, uncomfortable with the sudden public mess on his big day. He reached out to grab his bride's hand, trying to calm her down, but she pulled away violently. Hannah stood her ground, pulling a tiny black flash drive out of her pocket with a steady hand.
