The lead police officer stepped forward and grabbed Eleanor's wrists.
Eleanor: Get your hands off me, I live in this house!
Officer: Ma'am, you have the right to remain silent right now.
The officer pulled her arms behind her back and clicked handcuffs shut.
Eleanor struggled against the metal cuffs, shouting in loud desperation.
Eleanor: Mark! Tell them to stop, we can fix this!
Mark turned his back on her entirely without saying a word.
The second officer took out a small notepad to record notes.
Officer: Sir, we need to have the paramedics examine both kids.
Mark nodded and walked over to the soft living room couch.
He sat down with Emma still wrapped tightly in his jacket.
A female paramedic knelt beside them and offered a warm smile.
Paramedic: Hi Emma, can I check your blood pressure real quick?
Emma looked up at Mark, seeking his permission with her eyes.
Mark: It is okay, sweetie, she is here to help you.
Emma nodded slowly and let the paramedic check her small arm.
The officer began photographing the small hidden wall space carefully.
He took pictures of the blankets, wrappers, and the hidden latch.
Officer: This room was built deliberately inside the framework.
Mark: I hired contractors three years ago while I was away.
Mark: Eleanor told me it was just structural support repairs.
The officer shook his head in absolute disgust at the scene.
Officer: She will be facing severe federal kidnapping charges for this.
Mark looked down at the dark suit jacket covering Emma's shoulders.
He felt a deep sense of guilt for not knowing earlier.
Yet, he knew his tiny daughter Lily had saved the day.
If Lily hadn't shared her food, Emma might remain hidden forever.
He pulled Lily up onto the sofa beside her older sister.
Mark: You are a very brave little girl, Lily.
