An hour passed quickly as police cars pulled up to the Vance mansion with bright flashing lights. Detective Miller stepped into the grand hall, holding a heavy yellow file folder in his hand. Arthur sat on the sofa in the living room, holding Lily on his lap while she ate a warm bowl of soup prepared by the trusted personal chef.
Detective Miller: Mr. Vance, we just raided Evelyn Vance's penthouse suite downtown. We found these documents in her safe.
Arthur: What did you find, Detective?
Detective Miller: Bank records showing large monthly payments to a fake corporation in the Cayman Islands. She was paying Clara off for five years to keep your daughter hidden.
Arthur: So Clara wasn't trying to hurt Lily... She was protecting her from Evelyn.
Detective Miller: Exactly. Five years ago, Evelyn sabotaged your wife's car to cause the accident. Clara witnessed the whole thing and managed to pull baby Lily from the river before the car sank.
Arthur squeezed his eyes shut as tears finally spilled down his face. The painful truth hit him like a heavy wave. For five long years, he had lived in deep grief, believing his whole family was gone forever.
Arthur: Why didn't Clara bring her directly to me five years ago?
Detective Miller: Evelyn threatened to kill both Clara and the baby if she ever spoke out. Clara kept the child hidden in the small cottage in the woods, waiting for the right moment when Evelyn's influence faded.
Lily: Auntie Clara was real nice, Daddy. She made me soup when I was cold.
Arthur: Where is Clara now, Detective?
Detective Miller: An ambulance just picked her up from the cottage. She was severely poisoned by Elena yesterday, but doctors at the city hospital say she is going to survive.
Arthur: Thank God. Make sure she gets the absolute best private medical care money can buy. Put it all on my personal account.
Just then, the front doors flew open loudly. Evelyn Vance rushed into the mansion, her fur coat trailing behind her as two police officers followed closely at her heels.
Evelyn: Arthur! What is the meaning of this outrage?! Your security guards locked my bank accounts!
Arthur: Stand back, Evelyn. Don't come any closer to my daughter.
Evelyn: Daughter?! That dirty child is an imposter! Sarah's baby died in the river five years ago!
Arthur: We have the DNA results from the quick lab test, Evelyn. And we have Elena's full confession sitting on the table right here.
Evelyn froze in place, her face turning completely red with anger as she stared at the official papers sitting on the glass table.
