The following morning, the high-rise office building in downtown Atlanta was bustling with corporate executives arriving for the quarterly board meeting of Davis Enterprises. Claire walked through the glass double doors of the top-floor conference room dressed in a sharp beige suit, wearing dark sunglasses to hide the slight discoloration on her cheek. She held her chin high, trying to maintain her usual aura of unshakeable authority before the executive board members.
She took her seat at the head of the long mahogany table, setting down her designer handbag with a loud, confident thud. The ten board members seated around the room were unusually silent, keeping their eyes focused on their electronic tablets rather than greeting her as they normally did. Claire cleared her throat loudly, knocking her ringed fingers against the polished wood surface to grab their attention.
Claire: Good morning, everyone. Let's bring this meeting to order immediately. We have several property sales to approve today.
Board Member: We are not discussing property sales today, Claire. We are waiting for the majority shareholder to arrive.
Claire: I am the executor of the estate! I hold the primary voting power in this room!
Mark: Not anymore, Claire. Your power of attorney was revoked three hours ago by a superior court judge.
The double doors swung open, and Mark walked into the boardroom carrying a dark leather folder, accompanied by two uniformed police officers and attorney Arthur Pendelton. The board members turned in unison, several of them nodding respectfully toward Mark as he walked directly to the head of the table. Claire slammed her hands onto the table, standing up so fast her chair rattled against the glass window behind her.
Claire: How dare you bring police officers into my private board meeting! Get out of here right now!
Mark: This isn't your meeting, and this isn't your company anymore. Show her the injunction, Arthur.
Arthur stepped forward and placed an official court order directly on top of Claire's open binder. The document bore a red wax seal from the state county court, granting Mark temporary full control over all corporate assets and freezing every bank account tied to the Davis estate foundation.
Arthur: Mrs. Davis, you are officially suspended from all board duties pending the outcome of a formal criminal investigation into aggravated assault.
Claire: This is a absurd setup! Mark framed me! That video footage was edited using digital trickery!
Officer: Ma'am, we have a warrant signed by a magistrate judge for your arrest. Please step away from the table and place your hands behind your back.
Claire looked around the large room, searching for a single supportive glance among the wealthy executives she had cultivated as allies over the past three years. Every single board member looked away or stared back with cold indifference. She reached for her purse to grab her personal cell phone, but one of the officers quickly intervened, pulling her arms gently but firmly away from the table.
Claire: You can't do this to me! I am the widow of Thomas Davis! You will all pay for this insult!
Mark: My father would be disgusted by what you tried to do to his grand-child, Claire. You are finally getting exactly what you deserve.
