Linda looked at Michael with tears in her eyes.
"This is all her fault."
"If she had listened to me, none of this would've happened."
Sarah shook her head.
"No..."
"Please don't."
Michael hurried toward the crib first.
He gently picked up Emma and held her close until her cries slowly began to quiet.
Only then did he turn back to the two women.
Linda continued accusing Sarah of being an irresponsible mother because the baby had rolled onto her stomach while sleeping.
Sarah explained through tears that she had followed every safety recommendation, but Emma had recently learned to roll over on her own for the first time.
The pediatrician had already explained that this milestone was normal.
Linda refused to believe it.
Instead, she blamed Sarah for everything.
The argument had terrified both mother and child.
Michael looked around the room in disbelief.
His exhausted wife hadn't failed.
She had simply been overwhelmed.
