The bitter winter wind howled across the grand estate of Arthur Drummond, whipping heavy snow against the pristine white marble columns of his luxury mansion. High above the grand double doors, a large American flag snapped violently in the gale. Arthur stepped out of his black luxury sedan, wrapping his thick wool coat tightly around his chest. He was a man who possessed immense wealth, owning several profitable real estate firms and managing a massive family trust fund that had been built over three generations. Yet, despite his billions, his heart felt completely hollow. Just three days ago, his newborn baby boy had vanished from the private hospital wing under mysterious circumstances. His wife, Victoria, had wept bitterly in their master bedroom, claiming that a stranger must have sneaked into the hospital room while the nurses were away. Arthur had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars hiring private detectives, filing police reports, and putting up rewards across the city, but every lead had turned cold. He felt entirely defeated as he walked toward his entrance.
As Arthur reached the top step of the snowy porch, he noticed a faint shadow moving near the massive pillars. A young girl, no older than sixteen, was standing near the stone wall. She wore a thin, tattered sweater that offered zero protection against the icy weather, and her feet were completely bare, turned red and blue from the severe cold. She clutched a heavy black trash bag in one hand, while balancing a weathered cardboard box on top of it. Arthur stopped in his tracks, his eyes filled with suspicion and sudden concern. He was used to desperate people approaching his estate for financial help, but something about this young girl's eyes looked profoundly different. She was not asking for money, nor was she trembling merely from the freezing temperature. She was staring straight into his eyes with a look of absolute determination and deep sadness. Arthur raised his hand, gesturing for his security guards to wait near the driveway.
Lily: Sir... I found your son behind your mansion.
Arthur: That's... impossible!
Arthur felt his stomach drop instantly into a pit of sheer dread. His voice cracked with disbelief as he took a cautious step forward across the slippery stone porch. The girl lowered the cardboard box carefully to the ground, pulling back the top flaps with her raw, frozen fingers. Nestled inside, rested on top of a soft blue blanket, was a tiny baby. The infant opened his big blue eyes, letting out a soft, gentle coo as the cool air touched his face. Arthur dropped to his knees right there on the freezing marble floor, completely unbothered by the cold ice soaking through his expensive designer pants. Tears rushed down his face as he recognized the small dark birthmark shaped like a crescent moon on the baby's left wrist. It was truly his missing son, alive and breathing against all odds.
Lily: He has your eyes, sir. I knew he belonged to you the moment I saw him.
Arthur: Where did you find him? Who left him out here in this freezing weather?
Lily: I saw a woman throw this box near the trash cans behind your property line half an hour ago. She drove away in a silver car.
Before Arthur could process the girl's words, the heavy front doors swung open with a loud creak. Eleanor, the head housemaid who had served the Drummond family for over thirty years, rushed out onto the porch. She pulled her woolen shawl over her shoulders and gasped in complete shock when she saw the young girl and the tiny baby lying in the box.
Eleanor: Mr. Drummond! Please, bring them inside! They are going to freeze to death out here!
Arthur: Eleanor, call my personal doctor right now! Tell him to get to the mansion immediately!
Lily: Please... I don't want any trouble, sir. I just wanted to bring your baby back to safety.
Arthur: You saved my son's life. What is your name, young lady?
Lily: My name is Lily... I don't have a home right now.
Arthur: What's your name? Both of you... come inside immediately.
Eleanor: Welcome home, sweet baby. Come inside, child, let us get you warm shoes and a heavy coat right away.
Arthur stood up, gently gathering his baby into his strong arms, wrapping his own thick black coat around the infant to protect him from the howling wind. Eleanor placed a warm, caring hand on Lily's shoulder, guiding the barefoot girl into the grand foyer. As the massive wooden doors slammed shut behind them, blocking out the fierce winter storm, Arthur felt a dark suspicion beginning to root deep in his mind. The silver car Lily had described was exact in make and model to the luxury sedan his wife, Victoria, drove every single day. He looked at the shivering girl, knowing that the warm house was about to become the battleground for a massive family storm.
