The morning light hit the sunlit hallway of the Vance estate, reflecting off the polished hardwood oak floor. High white crown moldings framed the neutral beige walls where a framed American flag painting hung silently in the background. In the middle of the hallway sat Chloe Vance, trapped in a heavy wheelchair with visible dark bruises covering her frail arms.
Her mother-in-law, Evelyn Vance, stood over her with a furious expression, holding a heavy glass filled with bright orange liquid directly against Chloe's trembling lips. The sticky juice spilled across Chloe's pale face, dripping down her chin onto her shirt. Chloe turned her head away in total distress, coughing hard as she gasped for fresh air.
Evelyn: Drink it! Drink every single drop!
Chloe: No! Please, Evelyn! It hurts!
Evelyn: Stop squirming! You will take your medication whether you like it or not!
Evelyn pushed the heavy glass harder against Chloe's mouth, ignoring the young woman's soft tears. From the end of the hallway, Clara, the loyal house maid, hurried forward with wide eyes.
Clara: Stop! She didn't do anything wrong! Leave her alone!
Clara tried to reach out and catch Evelyn's arm, accidentally knocking a stack of medical papers off the polished wooden side table. The white sheets rained down through the bright morning air, scattering across the dark oak floor like winter snow. Evelyn turned her head sharply, her face twisting with pure hatred as she glared at the house maid.
Evelyn: Get your hands off me, you useless servant!
Evelyn shoved Clara backward with immense force, sending the maid stumbling against the wall. In the chaotic struggle, Chloe leaned too far over the side of her seat. The wheelchair tipped sideways, sending Chloe crashing onto the hard oak floor right among the scattered medical documents.
Chloe: Ah! Help me!
Chloe lay completely motionless on the hard wood, covered in spilled sticky orange juice, weeping softly in complete agony. Right at that exact second, the heavy wooden double doors at the main entrance swung open with a deep creak. Julian Vance stepped into the formal entrance hall wearing a sharp grey suit and holding his dark leather briefcase.
He froze immediately, staring in absolute horror at the terrible scene unfolding in his front hallway. His eyes scanned the scattered papers, the overturned chair, and his injured wife lying helpless on the floor.
Julian: Mother?
Evelyn: Julian! You... you're home early from your business trip?
Julian lowered his gaze to Chloe, his face growing completely pale before turning dark with instant rage. He dropped his heavy leather briefcase onto the floor, and the entire hall seemed to turn ice cold as he stepped forward to protect his wife.
