The heavy oak front door swung open with a sudden loud creak.
Mark walked into the bright foyer carrying two heavy brown paper bags.
He stopped right near the hallway mat when he saw Clara crying.
The sound of baby Jamie sobbing filled the wide open floor plan.
Mark dropped the groceries onto the hard floor with a loud crash.
Oranges and canned soup rolled across the smooth light wooden boards.
Father Mark: Mom! What happened here? What happened to the baby?
Evelyn quickly pulled out a tissue and began to wipe her eye.
She turned toward her son with a fake look of deep sorrow.
Grandma Evelyn: Your wife just yelled at me for no real reason!
Grandma Evelyn: I was only trying to quiet the poor little boy.
Mother Clara: She dropped him on purpose right in front of me!
Grandma Evelyn: That is a terrible lie, Mark, you know my heart.
Mark looked back and forth between his wife and his mother.
He rubbed the back of his neck because he felt so confused.
He had loved his mother his entire life without any huge doubts.
Yet Clara had never lied to him about important family matters before.
Just as the loud argument began to grow worse, footsteps echoed down.
Ten year old Lily walked down the wooden stairs very slowly and carefully.
She held her small black smartphone tightly in both of her hands.
Her young eyes were serious and wide as she looked at everyone.
Young Daughter Lily: Dad, Grandma did not know I was standing up there.
Young Daughter Lily: I recorded the whole thing on my phone screen.
Evelyn froze completely as her face lost all of its natural color.
The bright light overhead caught the cold glare in her wide eyes.
Mark turned toward his young daughter and took a step forward fast.
The entire house became silent except for Jamie's small low whimpers.
Lily pressed the screen button and handed the phone to her father.
