Elena dropped her armful of clean towels straight onto the marble floor.
She ran into the sunlit living room as fast as her legs could carry her.
Her rubber shoes squeaked loudly against the clean floor tile.
Margaret turned around in shock as Elena approached her rapidly.
Elena: Get your vile hands off this child!
Elena reached out and pushed Margaret away from the cooler box.
Margaret stumbled back against the silk sofa, her eyes wide with outrage.
Margaret: How dare you lay a hand on me, you ignorant servant!
Elena ignored the angry woman completely and leaned down into the cooler.
She lifted the shivering infant out of the cold box gently.
She pulled the crying baby tight against her warm uniform jacket.
The little boy pressed his cold face into Elena's neck, gasping for air.
Elena: Hush little one, you are safe now.
Margaret regained her balance and straightened her expensive champagne gown.
Her face twisted into a mask of pure rage and pride.
Margaret: Put that child down and pack your bags!
Margaret: You are fired from this estate immediately!
Elena held the baby tighter and stood her ground firmly under the American flag.
Elena: I am not going anywhere until Mr. Vance returns home!
Margaret: I am the mistress of this house!
Margaret: My husband will take my side over a common maid!
Elena looked Margaret straight in the eyes without a single trace of fear.
Elena: You tried to harm a helpless child because of your own greed!
Elena: No amount of money or diamonds will cover up what you just did!
Margaret stepped forward and raised her hand threateningly toward Elena.
Margaret: Give me that boy right now or I will ruin your life!
Elena backed away carefully while protecting the crying baby boy.
She kept her eye on the heavy wooden double doors leading to the main entrance.
She prayed that Arthur Vance would walk through those doors very soon.
The baby's breathing slowly began to calm down in Elena's warm arms.
Margaret reached into her purse and pulled out her gold cell phone.
Margaret: I am calling security to toss you into the street!
Before Margaret could dial the number, the heavy front doors swung wide open.
The sound of firm leather shoes echoed through the tall hallway.
Arthur Vance stepped into the light of the grand living room.
