The Hidden Paper Trail

A Little Girl Reveals the Truth About a Missing Wife

The lawyer's words echoed clearly through the quiet room.

Mark placed the call on the loud speaker right away.

Lawyer: The hospital named in the report never existed.

Evelyn's face finally lost all of its cool composure now.

Her hands began to shake slightly by her sides today.

Mark: Tell me where she is right now, Evelyn!

Evelyn: I do not know where she went after!

Mark: You hired a fake doctor to forge papers!

Mark stepped closer to the desk near the large window.

He began opening the mahogany drawers one by one fast.

Evelyn rushed forward to try and stop his hands.

Evelyn: Get your hands out of my personal desk!

Mark pushed her hands away gently but very firmly today.

In the bottom drawer he saw a small metal box.

He pulled it out and forced the small latch open.

Inside were bank transfer receipts from five years ago total.

They showed monthly payments sent to a small coastal town.

The receiver's name was listed as Clara Miller again.

That was Clara's maiden name before they got married.

Mark felt a shock of pure hope surge inside him.

She was alive and living under her old name today.

Mark: You paid her rent to keep her hidden away!

Evelyn: She swore she would never contact you again!

Mark: Because you threatened to destroy her young brother!

Mark remembered how fragile Clara's younger brother had been then.

Evelyn had used her legal power to intimidate Clara completely.

Mark grabbed the address written on the bank paper slips.

He turned around and walked straight toward the front entrance.

Evelyn: If you leave now, you lose the inheritance!

Mark: Keep the money, I am getting my life back!

He slammed the front door shut behind him very hard.

He ran down the stone steps toward his waiting sedan.

He started the engine and put the car in drive.

He set his navigation system to the small coastal town.

It was a three hour drive to the ocean side.

His hands gripped the steering wheel tight with strong focus.

He was finally going to see his lost wife again.
