Two local police cruisers pulled up directly beside the burning helicopter lawn.
Armed officers jumped out with their weapons drawn, moving toward the smoke.
Fire trucks followed closely behind, spraying water onto the flaming aircraft frame.
Mark held Victoria securely until the lead officer reached the wide terrace.
Officer Davis: What happened here? Who owns this aircraft?
Mark: My fiancee just planted an explosive device inside the engine panel.
Mark: My nephew saw her do it, and we found the remote transmitter.
Officer Davis looked at the small black box lying on the marble floor.
He picked it up carefully using a clean plastic bag from his belt.
Victoria: That box does not have my fingerprints on it anywhere!
Toby: She was wearing thin plastic gloves when she touched the panel!
Toby walked forward bravely, pointing at Victoria's dark jacket pocket.
Toby: She put the dirty gloves inside her right pocket after fixing it!
Officer Davis nodded to his partner, who immediately searched her jacket.
The second officer pulled out two crumpled latex gloves from her pocket.
Victoria's jaw dropped as her entire plan fell apart in front of everyone.
Officer Davis: Victoria Vance, you are under arrest for attempted murder.
The officer pulled her arms behind her back and clicked metal handcuffs shut.
Victoria struggled against the tight metal, her hair falling into her face.
Victoria: This is a massive mistake! My lawyer will destroy you all!
Officer Davis: Save your speech for the federal judge lady.
They led her down the high marble steps toward the waiting police car.
The guests broke out into loud gasps and low whispered conversations.
Mark took a deep breath, feeling the heavy tension leave his shoulders.
He walked over to Toby and knelt down on the bright floor.
Mark: You saved my life today, buddy. You were so brave.
Toby: I was scared, but I could not let her hurt you.
