The Broken Flower Basket

A Groom Cancels His Wedding After Discovering His Daughter Tears

The morning sun shone bright through the high windows of the grand bridal suite.

Soft white curtains fluttered gently in the warm spring breeze outside.

Fresh white roses rested neatly on every decorated wooden table in the venue.

Little seven-year-old Lily stood near the door wearing her small flower dress.

She adjusted her shiny shoes while holding her little wooden basket filled with rose petals.

Her dark hair was tied back with a beautiful ribbon her mother had left her.

Jessica stood across the room in a heavy lace wedding gown that sparkled under the lights.

She adjusted her long veil in the mirror with very sharp and fast movements.

Her hands trembled slightly as she checked her heavy makeup one last time.

Jessica was marrying Daniel after dating him for less than one single year.

Daniel was a kind man who owned a successful local business and a house.

He cared deeply for his daughter Lily after his first wife passed away years ago.

Lily walked carefully toward Jessica with a timid look on her young face.

She wanted to ask if her white dress looked nice for the quiet ceremony.

Suddenly, Lily tripped over the long hem of Jessica's heavy trailing dress.

The small wooden flower basket fell directly onto the polished floor with a loud crash.

Bright red rose petals scattered all across the clean floor in every single direction.

Jessica spun around instantly with a very angry look in her bright eyes.

She grabbed the wooden basket roughly out of Lily's hand and raised her sharp voice.

Jessica: Look at what you just did to my gown, you foolish little girl!

Lily stepped back quickly, her eyes filling up with dark tears of fear.

Lily: I am sorry, I did not mean to trip on your dress!

Jessica: You ruined everything on purpose because you do not like me!

Lily: No, I was just trying to show you my small flower shoes!

Jessica: Shut your mouth and stop crying right now before someone hears you!

The angry words echoed loudly through the large and empty bridal room.

Lily covered her face with her tiny hands as heavy tears rolled down her red cheeks.

She dropped her head low while her body shook from pure fear and sadness.

Jessica stood over her with narrow eyes and pressed her lips tightly together in anger.

She grabbed Lily by her small shoulder and shook her roughly in frustration.

Jessica: Stop making those loud noises right now or you will stay inside your room!

Outside the quiet room, rapid footsteps sounded loudly along the carpeted floor.

Daniel had been walking down the main hallway checking on the wedding guests.

He stopped dead in his tracks when he heard his young daughter crying so hard.

His face grew pale as he rushed toward the heavy wooden door of the suite.

He pushed the large door wide open and stepped quickly into the bright room.

His eyes opened wide when he saw Jessica standing angrily over his weeping child.

Daniel: What on earth is happening in here right now, Jessica?

Lily: Daddy!

Lily ran across the room as fast as her tiny legs could carry her.

Daniel dropped to his knees immediately and held out his strong arms.

Lily threw her small arms tightly around her father's neck and sobbed softly against his shoulder.

Daniel wrapped his hands around her tiny back to keep her safe and warm.

He glared up at Jessica with deep shock and anger clear in his dark eyes.

Daniel: Why were you yelling at my small child like that?

Jessica: She ruined my expensive wedding dress and acted like a complete brat!

Lily: Daddy, please do not marry her today, please take me home!
