The New Maid In White

A Greedy Bride Tried To Frame Her Millionaire Groom's Mother

The bright sun shone brightly through the floor to ceiling glass windows of the grand mansion in Beverly Hills. The house was worth twenty million dollars and had belonged to the Vance family for over three decades. Outside, the gardener was trimming the roses, while inside, the house was buzzing with excitement for the upcoming wedding. Daniel Vance, the young thirty year old head of Vance Enterprises, was set to marry Victoria Sterling in less than two weeks. The entire estate was being prepared for the grand rehearsal dinner that was scheduled for that evening.

Victoria: Make sure the silver is polished until I can see my reflection in it!

Victoria stood near the marble staircase, wearing a stunning emerald green satin dress that cost more than most people made in six months. Her fair skin was flawless, but her lips were pressed into a thin, angry line as she watched the household staff work. She carried herself like a queen who had already taken the throne. Victoria was the daughter of a real estate broker who had recently gone bankrupt, though she kept that fact hidden from Daniel. To her, this marriage was not about love, but about secured wealth, unlimited shopping trips, and legal access to the massive Vance trust fund.

Evelyn: Excuse me, Miss Sterling, where should I put these fresh orchids?

An older woman wearing a black maid's dress, a white apron, and thick horn-rimmed eyeglasses stepped into the foyer. Her grey hair was pulled back into a simple bun, and her posture was slightly stooped as she carried a heavy ceramic vase. This was Evelyn Vance, though nobody in the house except the butler knew her real identity. Evelyn had spent the last two years traveling the world after recovering from a long illness. She had returned home unannounced early that morning, curious to see what kind of woman her son was about to marry. Before revealing herself, she had decided to play a small trick by wearing a former housekeeper's uniform to observe her future daughter-in-law up close.

Victoria: Are you blind? Put them on the side table by the door!

Evelyn: Of course, right away. I am sorry for asking.

Victoria: You should be sorry. Good help is impossible to find these days.

Victoria rolled her eyes and turned back toward the foyer mirror to adjust her lipstick. She did not notice the sharp, calculating look in Evelyn's eyes behind those thick, outdated eyeglasses. Evelyn set the heavy vase down on the polished mahogany table with deliberate care. She had built Vance Enterprises from the ground up alongside her late husband, and she knew the true value of hard work and respect. Watching this young woman talk down to the staff made Evelyn's blood run cold with deep disappointment.

Victoria: Why are you staring at me? Do your job!

Evelyn: I was just admiring your dress, Miss Sterling. It looks very expensive.

Victoria: It costs more than your entire life savings, old woman. Now get out of my sight and fetch a bucket to mop this hallway again.

Evelyn nodded slowly and turned toward the kitchen area without saying another word. She walked past the framed American flag hanging proudly in the main foyer, a reminder of her late husband's service in the navy before he built their business empire. The house had always been a place of warmth, kindness, and hard work, but Victoria was bringing a dark shadow into these bright, sunlit rooms. Evelyn reached into her deep apron pocket and felt the cool metal of her small digital recorder, turning it on just in case.
